So, did we ever find out what broke the 'machine of death'?

Anything in the prepatch shed any light on this… issue?

It was Argus who broke it. That was revealed during Zerith Mortis questing

To expand further; Argus was pumped with so much death magic that after we killed him his soul went to the Shadowlands instead of wherever titan souls go.

Because the Aribiter was designed to ferry mortal souls and not titan one it broke getting hit by Argus.

Beauty. Thank you both.

How terribly lame that it was just in some dog quest:

Darkseer Corrupter says: A world-soul twisted by Death. A maul with which to crush the Arbiter…

Terrible.

So, basically, we broke the Arbiter? Good job, us!

I blame Illidan. We only did that because he opened up a gateway the size of a planet to get us back to Azeroth. All because Velen chased Kil’jaeden through a portal. Hey wait, that means it is Velens fault. But Velen only did that because we killed his son. Whom was corrupted and sent by Kil’jaeden to destroy O’ros. So it is KJ’s fault. But… we only went to the Exodar to give Lights Heart to Velen. Lights Heart being Xe’ras core. So really it is her fault since she sent herself to Azeroth in an attempt to help us bring Illidan to her. But…

And somehow the Jailer planned for ALL of that to go the way that it did.

well, the dreadlords really. They twisted argus into something that would basically error 404 the arbiter.

Just you wait until we find out the Jailer secretly planned for us to defeat him in some Machiavellian scheme to make us fix the entire cosmos.

I think we’ve also only seen one dead-dead Titan before, on that note. The others had their souls saved by Norgannon or whoever.

Technically two have died in-universe. In addition to Argus, Sargeras also killed an unnamed world-soul when he first encountered the Old Gods and discovered their purpose. We don’t know if that world-soul simply ceased to exist, if it went where dead titans go when killed, or if perhaps its state of extreme corruption caused it to go to the Void instead.

Sorry, I meant to say one other dead-dead Titan. I was referring to the one Sargeras killed.
