So classic just became progression servers?

Call it what it is we now have classic progression servers

Okay. What’s that mean?

(“It means what we have.” Not helpful, Fumbles.)

That’s exactly right. There’s nothing wrong with that though, is there?

Well being that it was Holly Longdale saying it person who was previously with Everquest.

Progression servers mean they progress through ALL expansions.

Oh, like EverQuest? Then: no, not at all. So-called “progression servers” there are just “lower cap and some areas locked off for a while.” If they’d released realms using BFA/Shadowlands rules, quests, dungeons, everything, but with a level cap of 60 (pre-squish) where you couldn’t go to Outland, Northrend, or points beyond, and their big announcement was, “The rules aren’t changing, but now the level cap will be 70 and you can go to Outland!” that would be like an EQ progression server.

(I have been hoping for a while that Classic will motivate SOE to make real Classic servers for EQ. Thus far I have been DISAPPOINTED.)

Many people, myself included, wanted expansion-specific servers.

Instead, we just have WoW happening all over again on a new timeline.

You still get them eventually by the looks of it. When we get wrath we’ll get TBC “era” servers, and so on.

I don’t think there’s any kind of guarantee of that, and if there is, then just announce they will come eventually.

I’m personally thinking I’ll just sit out until there is a fresh TBC server.

Always has been.

I mean they pretty much said this is what will occur. Like literally all but putting in it “There will be other Era servers”

Their words were that if Classic continues to be popular they will continue down the path they have laid out.

This means that when phase 5 of CTBC comes to an end if Classic is still popular they will progress to Wrath and TBC will get its own Era realm people can transfer off to in order to be forever CTBC.

They pretty much just did not confirm it because they don’t want to say Wrath and Era TBC is coming in 1-2 years and then have classic for whatever reason stop being popular, and then having to announce the cancelation of it.

I mean they kinda just set the precedent for it.

Meh. I’ll continue to sit out until there are Classic only servers. If they don’t happen, water off my back. Don’t want to deal with the filthy TBCers.

Okay, I dunno what the two of you read or listened to, but…

There are going to be original-Classic forever realms as soon as TBC launches. If that’s what you want, you’ll have it. If you want and were counting on completely new original-Classic realms being added, well, that wasn’t a logical thing to expect, but feel free to keep waiting, just don’t expect me to act surprised if you die of old age first.

BC realms will not (rather unfortunately) be guaranteed that none of the people on them will go on to lesser expansions, but people will be able to keep their characters in BC. If you want to wait until WotLK is out (and thus the BC realms will never bifurcate as the original-Classic realms will soon), well, that’s up for you–but, again, if you want and were counting on completely new BC realms being added, that wasn’t a logical thing to expect, but feel free to keep waiting, just don’t expect me to act surprised if you die of old age first.

But you can move to a classic forever server, for free, instead. Where there will
be more like-minded folks, where the servers will be more populated, because there will be less of them. So what’s the problem?
