So, buying a boost gets us exalted with most DF reps?

Character Boost Service Raised to Level 70 - Renown Boost for Base Dragonflight Factions - Wowhead News

How do you guys feel about this? Tbh… for me it feels kind of like a slippery slope. If this is the expectation for when boosts are released moving forward, can’t one just ignore every new reputation in TWW without the need to do any of the quests because they know they’ll just be able to buy exalted status at the tail end of the expansion? I know catch up mechanics are often a thing, but for me this feels kind of different. Just pulling out your wallet now gets you a collection of different titles, cosmetics, pets, mounts and other such rewards you’d otherwise have to at least play the game somewhat for.

Idk, I still go back to past expansions to grind some of the reps because there are things I want. I have the money to buy boosts, but it was nice to still have those little goals to work towards. Self control and all that jazz, I know… but feels like that temptation of just being able to pull out my wallet for all those rewards now is gonna be poking at my brain whenever I play TWW and say, “Hmmm… should I work on this new renown for that mount or title or pet? Naw, I’ll just wait to buy it.”

It’s not that big of a deal. Either buy it or don’t. Whether this is a one time thing or a thing they’ll do moving forward. Why agonize over it. It’s not that big of a deal.

However we are in GD.

I mean I’d say being able to buy your way to max reputation is a pretty bad precedent. Grinding reps has always been a big thing in this game… and with this, it kind of just feels like it’s become a buy it and forget it vibe. I know you don’t have to do it but still, seems if you have the resources, there’s not much reason to even do the WQ for renown anymore going forward imo.

I could be out of touch with how WoW works these days considering I’ve barely played since BfA, but I think you’d have a hard time playing the game at all if you’re just going to ‘sit and wait’ until a boost is available to ‘skip’ doing quests.

It boggles my mind how anyone can’t be max renown already with these factions that have been out for a year, now, and with rep coming from so many sources.

this is only would be a bigger issue when Warband is live when all achieve and reps are shared account-wide in Warthin.

But the exalted is nice for people who have just started their df journey so they can just do all the content gated behind the rep and even if they have unlocked the max renown, they still need to have supplies to purchase all of the things you get from reps.

There are far, far more players without them maxed than there are players with them. As always, total playtime is going to be the reason for this. Not everyone’s been playing DF since the day it launched, y’know? Every day is someone’s first day.

I’m extremely casual and am not at max rank with any rep yet in dragonlands.

I mean unless you go out of your way to do the reps you won’t earn any significant amount. I have 10-15 on most of them on like 4 different toons because I played a lot of alts.

That said if you wanted to max them, doesn’t take too much effort to do so.

I see what you’re saying. I guess for me reps were more of this thing where I knew it wasn’t gonna get itself done, so I might as well doing a little quest here and there because that was the only way I’d get to see those titles and rewards. Now I know that I don’t really have to do any of that, it’s garuanteed as long as I buy a boost at the end. Just felt it was nice to have those things that weren’t time-limited, but still you had to play the game somewhat to accomplish. Without reps being that thing, I guess there’s still stuff out there for achievement hunters.

I guess it will open up their ability to get some transmogs but otherwise it is a bunch of items no longer relevant.

In terms of grinding beyond quests for vanity stuff, yeah, I can see how offering paid boosts can kinda lead to that way of thinking. But renown generally goes beyond level 20 as well (at least in this implementation of it), so even with boosted characters starting out at 20, there’re still 5-10 ranks beyond those for each of the affected factions, plus the ones not even touched at all. There’s also the fact that most normal quests only seem to give as much rep (or less!) as a WQ does anyway, so it’s not like they really help very much in the first place…

I would not be surprised at all if they allow Warthin reps to be boosted through a 12AM preorder.

I had no idea it exalts reps to be fair but honestly for $60 it should . That’s a whole game (well not a brand new aaa title— ludicrous those are more frequently $70 now) but on steam you can find a lot of titles for $60 so a level boost should include some stuff imo.

exalted

not a single one of those are maximum renown.
Dragonscale Expedition and Maruuk Centaur are 5 ranks off (20/25)
Loam Niffen is 8 ranks off (12/20)
Valdrakken Accord and Iskaara Tuskar are 10 ranks off (20/30)

Are you people capable of having a negative opinion about something without feeling the need to compulsively lie about it also?

Yeah, that’s true. I’m feeling a little mixed about everything but feel I’ll ease into the changes over time, but still wanted to hear people’s thoughts. At the end of the day I enjoy playing the game, so try to find reasons to do so, and going forward I think I’ll have enough enjoyment for the game to still want to work on the reps regardless of if there’s going to be a boost at the end of the expansion or not. For me, they’re like enjoyable little chores I do as I listen to stuff in the background.

These changes just had me feeling a bit uncertain. I don’t buy boosts all the time, but I guess for someone like me who likes all the little titles, mounts, pets, toys and stuff that sometimes come with them, it’s a big carrot to pull out my wallet. Then again, I’m glad they put it at the very end of expansions because I don’t think I can wait that long to get all that stuff anyhow, so there’s that.

I think I’m still around like 12 with Dragonscale Expedition 15 with Tuskarr and like 5 or 6 with loamm still lol. I just don’t care enough to farm out rep for any of them. I probably won’t farm Dream Wardens either

Oh I didn’t notice that, which is good it’s not exalted. Still, my main concern was the idea that I could just buy my way a shortcut to all the neat stuff reputations offer. Idk, I felt that was one of the main things the game offered as a timesink you could work towards even after the expansion was over (I still go for things like the reps from TBC, WOTLK, CATA etc. as I’m not maxxed with all of them) but pulling out the card seems like an easier option now.

My thoughts on it is that they are hoping to get more players into the game as they prepare for the next expansion and this will help make flying accessible to them as pathfinder is set up currently. I don’t know if it will continue to be a future thing, I somehow doubt it.

Oh no, someone’s paying real money for cosmetics… right, don’t care.
