Maybe it’s not that difficult for some classes which gives them a false illusion that everything is fine while it’s hell for others.
I would think Hunters would be one of the easier classes to do Mort with all the utility they have plus pets for aggro.
Might be a L2P issue for the OP as it usually is for threads like this, might not. 
I prefer this wing over the one with the ghost things that do a ton of magic damage. My one true weakness.
I mean pre nerfs I couldn’t even come close to soloing it so I figured if I’m able to do it now then it must be easier for a lot of other classes as well, especially hunter.
First thing: Anyone was says they cleared this level 8 with a mage or rogue, I don’t believe you. Especially on a lower ilvl.
Second: Bliz hates some classes. If you have a pet, it’s not bad, but holy **** taking a portal and being immediately attacked is zero fun. The huge puddles of **** those things leave on the floor are bs. The inability to plymorph them is bs. And the rng **** is junk. Being night fae, I don’t care about soul shifting cooldown is faster, not like it gives much better choices. Or contributes to my dps.
When I reach the mid-point and don’t have outstanding anima powers, I leave. Not going to waste more of my time to be destroyed by the over-tuned boss at the end.
Torghast is sort of fun on my tanks and toons with pets, but on my mage and rogue, I believe bliz this xpac hates us.
i hated mort the first time it opened. i can’t sap anything there, so it does limit my cc plus all the reasons you mention and the pools dropped are a nightmare for melee with all those choke points.
I ran it on 5 earlier and I just plowed through everything as a sin rogue. I also noticed some things I could do to make the run a little easier for me, like being able to go into stealth while I’m still in the air using the grappling hook. It seemed like the length of the floors were drastically cut.
They do massive damage when they turn green, which I think is every third hit, so you can see when that damage spike is about to happen.
But really, I’m fine with how it is, minus the length. Before starting Torghast I did not expect to clear Layer 8, though over time and gradually gearing up Mort is going to become easier, just like raiding and dungeons.
I realize I’m probably in the minority, but I like that it is challenging. I like that there are differences in the in enemy variety and map layout.
The touch power that reduces cd is both great and lame for me whenever he gets it cause from there on I basically just run after him 
but then when there’s annoying mobs it’s cool.
I like duoing it with him but only cause we’re both methodical and have the same opinion on what to pull, interrupt and cc. Otherwise, I think I’d prefer doing it alone too
You really still feel like it takes long? I feel like the runs have been substantially quicker since they nerfed it. At the same time, I kinda approach it like I approached horrific visions: Pull as much as you need to and can handle but little enough to survive. As a frost mage, I couldn’t really speed through visions for a long time either, so I’m kinda used to the slow approach now. If it really annoys you a lot, maybe always take the “see what mobs have an anima orb” power whenever you get it and skip some. I can’t because sometimes I need to buy some with anima but if you have enough hp and maybe interrupts (haven’t really played a dk) I suppose you could

Mort’regar is terrible, the only thing that alleviates some of the pressure points in it is the rare boss that gives you the power to heal in the death pools instead of dying in them.

I haven’t tried to solo layer 8 post nerf, so I can’t say if I could solo it (maybe I’ll try later or after reset). For me, venthyr frost, I get that power that reduces your door of shadows to instant and (almost) no cd (just use it 10 times before the boss). I don’t know if soulshape is as useful but that essentially gives me another no cd blink. I get 2 of the “time warp also increases the speed at which time passes by 30%”, on pull I use time warp, dps into boss with everything I have, as soon as he’s on me, I use mirror images, blink away from him, attack him till he’s killed the mirror images, then either blink/door of shadow around the platform while dpsing and/or use time warp whenever he’s about to hit me for the first time and mirror images is on cd. If I have the massive blizzard damage increase for first blizzard on the floor I use that on him, I always take frostbolt cast time reduction and frostbolt damage increase while invisible and use that as well, and I take the one that gives you all three mage barriers (rarely get it though). Other than that haste increase, crit increase and all other stat increases as they come.
I think whether you can or can’t do layer 8 is massively dependent on anima powers though. Even more so than for lower floors, so no idea if I can do it, but I’ll try some time.

Okay 45 seconds is pretty excessive still. There’s only one power that reduces interrupt cd right?
yeah we’ve got a talent that drops it to 30 seconds, but you have to give up the stun to get it. i don’t think anybody uses that talent. there’s an anima power that gives you that talent for free but it’s not super appealing unless the other choices are garbage.

It can really suck. Like when you get those platforms you have to rope up to and you get up there and there are 8 mobs that auto agro. Maybe one elite that his hidden. With this guy I can stand a chance. I was in there on my mage and I just went back and stopped the run. And that was on a level 2. It does seem very skewed against kiting classes when there is zero room to kite and everything auto agros so you cannot cc.
You being too dumb and bad to clear it =/= it needs to be changed. Read a strategy guide. lol
