So Bioware tried no flying for Anthem

This is not a complaint but an observation that laziness in game development is all over. They tried a build of ANTHEM with no flying and former CEO P. S. said it sucked. They basically wasted 6 years trying to make a non flight game then rushed the final product in the final 16 months.

Did this type of nonsense occur with wow?
I’m leaning more towards yes 80/20.

I mean. whoever thinks anthem was good needed to get there eyes checked. It was touched by EA.
Thats a death sentence for any game.

Anyone stupid enough to buy an EA game gets what they deserve.

No flying in anthem is the least of their problems. That game is garbage.

There was no flying in Red Dead Redemption 2. One of the best games of last year. If not the best.

IS THERE A CONNECTION TO WOW HERE?!

Anthem and WoW are two completely different kinds of games.

Don’t compare them.

OK. Not sure what your point is…

This post is dumb since neither flight related system between the two are even remotely similar when it comes to development and gameplay.

Anthem has so much more wrong with it than a flight system… That game is just messed up upon so many different levels. I know EA doesn’t have a great track record but this is bad by even their standards.

Flight wasn’t the make or break feature of Anthem. The killer was indecision as a result of bad leadership.

While I agree that EA is terrible, the only fault of theirs is their terrible Frostbite engine and making everyone use it. Other than that though, it was primarily an issue in Bioware’s leadership. Bioware’s development practices need to be brought to the current era.

They actually bounced back and forth between adding it and not. One issue they brought up was the whole building the world around flight in mind, which I imagine is harder to do on that awful Frostbite engine (which, after reading an article, sounds like trying to make a square peg fit in a circular hole multiple times smaller than it) and they brought it back because the CEO said the game sucked and they needed an ace in their back pockets to try and impress him. Furthermore, the demo that they brought flight back in wasn’t even close or reminiscent of the actual game release.

It sounded like Anthem had a lot of amazing ideas at the start. In fact, the original survival design of the game would have been ruined with flight. But they just hit snag after snag and the failure ended up being a combination of Frostbite and poor management/leadership, constant leaders leaving or trying to rewrite things from the ground up, and no clear vision for the game.

Bioware is an interesting comparison. Legion world and quest design reminded me of SWTOR. And lets be honest here, that game was so bad the Star Wars IP couldn’t save it.

Linear on rails lead you by the nose world and quest design. That worked in 90’s not because it was good, but because that was all that the technology allowed.

When you let story take precedence over game design it better be a good story. And when you let story, not the player, define the character, you better define that character in a way the player agrees with.

Because being forced down a hallway dictated by a story you don’t have faith in while controlling a character forced to behave in ways you don’t agree with, that’s what I call the SWTOR experience.

Did you read the Kotaku article?

The mandate to use frostbite has now killed 2 games. Andromeda and Anthem.

Bioware must be a HORRIBLE place to work now.

The issues with wow are simpler but similar because it’s a corporate mandate. In this case it was to maximize ROI on sunk costs for legion. This is a sort of budget expac.

Agreed. Comparing Anthem to WoW is dumb imo. Also it’s not like we’re not getting flying, Blizz just wants to string it along for whatever reason lol.

cough apex cough

I don’t think a lack of flying had anything to do with Anthem being bad. Anthem is, from what I’ve heard, just…bad.

i mean, it’s alright, i tried it, it’s not worth 60$'s but it’s alright pass time, i enjoyed the gameplay, just not the story.

Why does this sound like you are talking about WoW.

Flight wasn’t the make or break feature of WoW. The killer was indecision as a result of bad leadership.

While I agree that BfA is terrible, the only fault of theirs is their terrible engine and making everyone use it. Other than that though, it was primarily an issue in Blizzard ’s leadership. Blizzard’s development practices need to be brought to the current era.

I’d buy it. It happened with D3, maybe the WoW team needs some new blood

GTA V blows RDR out of the water and it has flight.
