Azeroth is a globe. Atleast according to holograms in titan facilities right? Well when the sun is out, its out on both Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms at the same time. So obviously, the next question is, if its sunny on both continents and Isles at the same time, where is it night? Could be a vast ocean or the other half of the world.
I mean, during vanilla, before the map was updated with expansions, we continent hopped “without knowing” the broken isles, the dragon isles, Kul Tiras, and Zuldazar were even there unless you read the books.
So, with that knowledge, and yes I am aware of red t-shirt guy back in the day asking about this, is that more “proof” that we are only showing the upper hemisphere of the planet?
Obviously its the “upper” due to NORTHrend being, well, north and frozen while Silithis, tanaris, and Uldum are deserts in Kalimdor and Stranglethorn Vale in the Eastern kingdoms is humid wet tropics. Basically signifying the equator region.
So, TL;DR…is there another half of the world we have yet to see?
and time works odd in-game. We can go from ratchet to booty bay in the same time we can be summoned by a warlock. by boat, we should have some delay between the two, but we don’t.
Lore-wise it takes over a week on a horse to get from Lordaeron to Tarren Mill…and a month on a boat to get from Lordaeron to Dragonblight in Northrend. Obviously they can’t put real travel times in the game, or it wouldn’t be a game.
Doesnt have to be real time. Just asthetically real. Such as sunny on one side and night on the other. But if its sunny or night at all locations on Azeroth at the same time then obviously we are on or only see one half of the planet.
But forget that and ask this since someone said there is no other half of a planet, why would it have a north frozen “pole” but its south pole is arid and hot?
Because the way the continents are contructed in-game is as areas floating in a void separated by loading screens. They are not going to go to the trouble to actually model all the environments coehsively on one map on a sphere. It’s not a simulation, it’s a game.
Also, Pandaria is not on the south pole. There isn’t a continent on the south pole.
And the game doesn’t even have Azeroth time. It doesn’t need it. They aren’t trying to accurately simulate a planet, that’s not the purpose of the game, and it would be a waste of development time to implement things like that. It’s a fantasy world, some suspension of disbelief is required.
Well, one would say the Titan Holograms are innacurate too since it doesnt show any of the isles.
Yeah that was before certain expansions, but it does give some sort of interesting speculation. The reason for this is because when red t shirt guy asked the panel this, they smiled and were sort of taken aback. As if “how did he know” look.
A map is what is known to be charted and since we all have day light no matter where there is another side ,or our eyes are blinded by something. We all seen Azeroth from space spinning below us so ,yes, your question is a good one since it is mindfully being aware.
And that’s why I asked it. It just seems like there are noticeable pieces of information that are placed in front of us that can be observed and I dont think thats by accident.
Chris Metzen is a good story teller. Its just unfortunate he has let others tell it for him. But I think he is trying to reveal a more interesting story and each expansion is a puzzle piece that will culminate when the “Last Titan” is released.
So to me, its just fun to speculate as to what may be coming later at the end or after this saga.
Funny thing is, I think we are in for a surprise. Possibly a massive twist. One can only hope.
Thats why I was thinking we may have another side of Azeroth that could be the “next 20 years of World of Warcraft”, as Metzen put it.
Wouldnt it be funny that the last 25 to 30 years of warcraft (I am counting as if we are in the expansion of the Last Titan), were to only take place on half of the planet while the next 25 to 30 takes place on the other.
With your placement of other planets and dimensions of course. Barring the game doesnt flounder by then lol
That’s the fun thing about it,it’s a mystery and we have to guess if our minds are being tricked even with a magician illusions we keep guessing ,“How did he do that?”,now how do we see the same day light and moon? no matter where we go?
Strange thing is there is no space in wow it the nether ,so I keep guessing it’s trans-denominational.
There might be, but I would propose the devs did not have any of this in mind when they implemented a day night cycle in the game. There are no conclusions to be drawn. Some day they may introduce a continent on the opposite hemisphere and it will have nothing to do with the original day-night cycle design.
Well, how about this. The aesthetics of the old world have been updated graphically right? But not the sky box… almost as if its kind of blurred or low res on purpose? Just a thought to me. Yes I know thats how it looked in vanilla…but why not update it also?
