So at what point does elemental overtake resto for leveling?

^ It seems that while trying to level an ‘elemental’ shaman, restoration spec actually does more damage at the early levels. Does anyone happen to know exactly when/what lvl that changes at?lol

about the time you get earth shock if i recall

You get ES at the start.

If you are only killing one target at a time then resto will do more damage than ele even with ES due to the amount of time it takes to generate enough maelstrom to use ES. This is why you level with AS talent so you can chain multiple ES together.

It being pretty simple math:
If resto LB and LvB hits harder than ele and you only ever cast LB and LvB and you lose more maelstrom than you generate going from mob to mob resto will always outdps ele.

If you aoe grind (pull 5+ targets everytime) ele will actually pull ahead in the 30s when you get your kit set:
CL
EB totem
Cap totem
TS
Earth Ele
EQ
AS

Afterwards you get:
SE/magma totem
PE
SK

Which only boosts your ability to aoe grind.

Ele only really pulls away when PE and SK are unlocked .

What Madalynn said is true. Single target you can;t generate maelstrom fast enough or really even before your target is dead. You’ll get more burst as ele when ES is up, but that’s just about every other mob and therefore won;t even out.

Biggest benefit to leveling ele came at lvl 40 in warmode when i could select lightning lasso. Completely worth it for mobs with higher health pools. especially because when leveling it’s basically a 40% execute on a 30 second cool down. really about a 50% execute if you have flameshock rolling and the earth spike talent going. Those will continue to damage while you take 40% away in a stun.

I leveled two shamans from 1-120 in resto. Everyone acted like it was some great challenge or something, but it was fun. I was perfectly capable of killing things at a satisfactory pace. Get Echo and you’re fine.

I just really never felt a need to swap over to elemental for leveling.
