So are we for sure going to a yearly model, with a $50 price tag per xpack?

Im still confused on how this is going to work. Are we going the Diablo 4 route, with an expansion per year? While paying $15/mo on top of a $50-$90 price tag?

If this is the case, are seasons going to be shorter, or will there be less seasons with the same time for them? Will we be allowed to get things we couldn’t obtain during that play time, at some point in the future, because Blizzard has now tightened the amount time to get said thing?

If we are forking over more money each year for the game, the Subscription needs to give us more. Unless they are planning on having a F2P model and a Sub model, with the sub model giving something extra we dont know yet?

No in the interview today they even said this group of expacs could take us into 2030. They just want to be done with it by then. They said roughly 1.5 year expacs.

This is the quote from them:

“Expansions have been 24 months, will it be faster?”

“Can’t speak to specifics, but yes, we want to finish the Worldsoul saga before 2030.”

So it does seem shorter. Wowhead corrected what they put in an article earlier. I don’t know how short. I just know I’m paying in Blizz bucks, not real $$$.

It’s possible. Metzen over the course of a few years and that they plan to get the content out much quicker than we’re used to.

I’m worried the plan is to sell shorter expansions for the same price we’re paying for expansions now. I’ve played this game since 2004 and I enjoy it but there’s a limit on how much I can be squeezed, you know?

You know if we get non stop content who wouldnt want to pay that per year? But if there is still gonna be massive lulls then thats unacceptable

So long as we get 2 major patches per expansion, im good with a faster release cycle.
The wait between expansions is boring.

I mean, wouldnt you rather cut out the huge gap between 10.2 and 11.0? I know id love for it to come out in may or june instead of in the autumn.

If the expansions are the same size as they have been but they’re just cutting down on the dead time between expansions I’m cool with that. But a little dead time is good for finishing up stuff.

Yep, especially if they plan on including Veilstrider-type FoSes.

There’s probably mixed feelings about this if I had to guess

On the one hand, most people don’t enjoy content droughts and stale patches that drag on 7-8 months, but then on the other hand shorter expansions basically means we’re going to be “paying more for less” so it’s hard to tell

Shorter expansions also mean less time for people to farm hard-to-get achievements such as CE and also time-limited/FOMO stuff, so there’s also that

Chances are they will try to move closer to yearly as time goes on.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing because it means more content and less draughts, but with price tags of games going up the idea of forking out that every year makes my wallet tremble. I’m sure they’re salivating over the idea of getting people to drop $90 every year though.

And even if they never go beyond 1.5 years if they actually do succeed in making that the new norm that’s 33% more expansions out which means 33% more expansion profits. It’s a massive cash influx for them to pick up that I bet they’ve been wanting to do pull this off for a while.

I’d wager if they ever do pull it off they’d bring expansions down to two patch cycles. That’s what they went for WoD, but they failed on Legion delivery timeline. I think the main drawback will be players will feel like there is no downtime to enjoy other games or take breaks.

And if they do something like that where they trim a patch cycle out you I’d say that’s a bit of a loss for the players. There is a benefit in more content to consume, but it’s coming at a cost.

yes absolutly a couple of weeks after you start feeling the patch has died down is fine but i would love to just skip these months of dead time especially that last stretch after the last big patch that period is the worst

They did not say this. Chris said they want to push content quicker than they have in the past. He then revealed the 3 expansion plan to have the story cover 3 expansions.

He also said they weren’t discussing a definitive timeline at this Blizzcon.

yea ill glad to pay more if we can skip awful fated seson

The expansion pays for the base expansion. Which is a LOT mind you. You get a raid, a bunch of dungeons, a few extra zones with a lot of story and quests.

The subscription then gives you EVERYTHING else. All of ther content patches with the extra raids and dungeons, all the new zones and stories and quests.

WoW gives us a TON of content with the expansions. A lot of other games don’t give you nearly as much for the same cost. Or they go f2p and give you even less.

I think we’re incredibly lucky with how much content we get on a regular basis. And they’ve never raised the price of ther sub fee.

Have they actually increased the expansion cost over the years? Haven’t they always been $50? Would you rather them shrink the expansions for the same price, or keep them as big as they are and double the price tag?

If we’re going to be able to only play 1-2 seasons of an expansion and whatnot then I am done paying for the heroic edition. I can’t see myself paying $70 for something I’ll only be playing for a year if not less if I don’t like the current season or expansion.
