Rift also has a great wardrobe system that allows you to hide every slot and yea, apart from the initial ‘ha ha look at us raiding naked’ everyone keeps their clothes on mostly.
Since all of the items in question currently exist in game, they are by definition part of the world we’re playing in. So you may not like them, but how does it break immersion to have characters in Azeroth wearing items found in Azeroth? It’s not like loosening transmog restrictions will suddenly fill the game with FF14 or Mass Effect armor.
I really hope one of the restrictions they remove is on Legendary Weapons. I remember them saying some time ago that one of their concerns with allowing legendary weapon transmog was that everyone would just run around with the same weapon and it would remove the coolness or something of actually obtaining them from those who did.
I mean, this may have been the case at the time when transmog first came out in Cata, but nowadays, especially after legion, there is a HUGE variety of weapon skins and transmog options that I feel a lot of people would prefer. For crying out loud, paladins have the Ashbringer…shamans have Doomhammer, and I can currently throw two Thunderfurys on my back like it’s no big deal. Not to mention, Demon Hunters can already use the Warglaives of Azzinoth freely, and I don’t see that as often as I thought I would.
I think it’s time. Let the wielders of these special weapons show them off instead of just making them sit in our bags waiting for the right chance to RP in boss kill pictures.
We don’t? I don’t care at all if my raid’s paladin tank goes in wearing xmas clothes. Do you? Why do you worry about your fun being more important than someone else’s?
Frankly, chest coming before bracers/gloves/boots makes basically 0 sense. If they’re gonna do chests, just unlock "hide " for all non-weapon slots at the same time. Even pantless can be used. It won me the first Trial of Style I queued for because the most “Zen” thing I have is my underwear, which I matched with a red top.
That aside, why is “lessening restrictions” a “long term” effort? Just turn off the restrictions if they’re planning on doing it eventually. It’s arbitrary. If they implemented that in such a way that it takes more than changing a 0 to a 1, then they didn’t think very hard when they designed transmog in the first place (Which is possible, I guess).
PS: I’m just commenting on what they’ve talked about doing. I don’t actually agree with allowing xmog for things like bunny ears and the santa outfit year-round. I think out-of-season holiday garb looks trashy in literally every game that allows it. So, for me, the “rules” for holiday items would seem arbitrary to others, since it’d basically depend on how closely tied the item’s appearance is to the holiday. Flame Festival stuff could fit outside of it, I think, but the aforementioned Santa outfit is very clearly holiday-themed, and a mirror of a real life holiday at that. No thanks.
Remove restrictions in general and let me mog plate armor and etc on my rogue with my fishing rod and rolling pin, along with the grey and common items.
You had me until you got to the holiday items. There’s no reason why people shouldn’t be able to mog flower crowns and sun glasses whenever they want. If someone wants to look like an idiot in a santa suit they can already do that with the toy, so…
The only real restriction I want lifted is acquisition. If it drops, put it in my book for the character that can use it… Personally I’ll live with the plate guy can only wear plate, leather can only wear leather… But for the love of god the number of times I’ve seen the judgment pants drop on my clothy!!!
I also agree with the holiday stuff… Gloves I don’t care one way or another.
