So, about those naming rules

I have never even paused at the idea of using an alt code if a name I really like is taken. I didn’t get first dibs on the name, which is fine, so I just get an alt code letter. Recently, with some of the posts popping up about names and rules pertaining to character naming, I learned that alt codes are banned for RP realms (where the bulk of my account is located). So, does that mean using an alt code could get me banned/suspended for playing on the RP realm I love playing on?

Just to note, the names are still ‘real’ names (or at least, real by fantasy standards), but I’ve seen it mentioned a few times in the forums that using an alt code is against the rules on those realms.

Lol no.

Only if someone really wants you banned and spams reports on you. Ive seen some pretty explicit names on there. A lot of my names technically break the rules too. Its so normalized no one cares.

I don’t know what the rules actually are, but unless your name is somehow vulgar or offensive, the worst that would probably happen is you’ll get flagged for a free name change.

Thanks! Yeah, they’re definitely still name-names. I never really thought about it at all before, but seeing it mentioned a few different times here lately had me curious/nervous.

There are some names in which the alt codes would be correct. For example words and names in French and spanish sometimes use é or á. Cliché is an example of word that an alt code being used.

Some of the name generators out there can make names with the alt codes, though personally if you want something truly unique I recommend trying out www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ the creator has done a remarkable job keeping it updated.

As someone from a RP realm i don’t see you getting banned for using alt codes in your name. Just follow the set naming rules Blizzard has in place and you should be fine.

Only if people report it. And it goes by number of infractions. First one, you just get logged out and get a forced name change. After that, you can get sanctioned for continuing to break rules. But you’d have to get the player reports first. Which doesn’t necessarily happen.
