If I wanted to try it out, can I go back? I’m curious but at the same time don’t want to find out how badly I may have been playing for the past decade.

Use the Hekili addon. It’s 100 times better than the button or the assistant.
it’s literally a spell in your spell book. You can drag it down to the bar and try it and then if you don’t like it, drag it off the bar and throw it away. you can find it at the very top of the spell book window on the brown bar itself.

I put it on my hot bars and now I’m stuck with it down there unable to return it. See, I fed it after midnight, and poured some water on it. Now it has a white stripe down the center of the button and actively tries to kill me.
