I am having a problem with some smothered crops in the Sunsong Ranch. I have a turnip, a carrot and a pumpkin that are smothered. I can’t pull them out and I can’t dig them up with the dented shovel (I get an invalid target message). I have been stuck for some time and am making no progress. Please help. Thank you.

I believe there is supposed to be some kind of weed smothering the crop. It may be difficult to target.
There was an article about the carrot specifically talking about a blue leaf:

I know this isn’t entirely on topic, but a Smothered Juicycrunch Carrot sounds delicious.
Thank you. I was able to nullify the Smothered Juicycrunch Carrot. I targeted the NPC and kept pulling until it came up. I noticed that there was an icon in the upper right of the screen with a counter that started at 10. The counter dropped when I pulled but randomly regained numbers. I pulled the weed out when the counter reached zero.
When I clicked on the weed-free vegetable I noticed a timer icon underneath the vegetable’s status bar giving the time remaining until harvest as twenty hours.

Why is it that everyone in the Valley of the Four Winds like to hang permanently on the Farm?
I’m not sure if you wanted more info on your farm/crops but I remember a couple things from doing it back in Mists I thought might be helpful if you’re just starting on it.
I’m pretty sure most (if not all) of your crops will need some sort of tending after you plant them. Once tended, they should be good to harvest the next day.
If you’re after particular crops, you can find Jogu the Drunk and ask about his crop predictions for the next day. More info about him on the link provided.
It wasn’t a thing when MoP was current content but we now have the ability to bind an interact key via your in-game settings. I imagine that should help immensely if you’re having any trouble targeting those pesky weeds as, from what I remember, pulling them away from plants is the only thing you won’t eventually be able to do en masse.
Lastly, and I really have no idea what kind of progress you’re trying to make here with your farm, but if you’re interested in getting some easy reputation with the individual members of the Tillers you should be able to buy their favorite gifts from Mistweaver Xia with badges during the MoP timewalking event - March 11-17. You can also get these just by flying around Valley of the Four Winds and looting dark soils.
