Can we make SMF work somehow?
What’s the payoff for playing it in dungeons and raids?
How much do we lose by choosing it?

No.
You lose stats, walk a bit faster.
Might look cooler tho.
No. Make it a glyph or a pure transmog option, delete it entirely from the game. There is no other options, Blizzard has made their intentions regarding SMF clear
No.
There isn’t one.
They only brought it back because people kept emailing them and annoying them to bring it back so they did and it is still bad, the only way it would work is that they would have to make some OP as crap strength one handers with some nutty proc effects but they won’t so it will forever be bad because you give up so many stats.
Actually there is one. You can play a sub-optimal dps spec as a main prot.
That’s so unfortunate as I would love to see more “rogue” like Warrior. Blademaster of a sort, or Combat Rogue but more Warrior oriented. Both - with gameplay and aesthetics.
Single-Minded Fury is the only option we have to get closer to such image.
Duelist, Blademaster, Combatant or Gladiator could be such interesting ideas for Hero talents.
I really wish it was at least comparable playing single minded fury dps wise. The idea of using one handers and being all around faster because it, attacking / movement is just really cool. But ya, it’s more or less just for RPing now if you are trying to do anything really.
I see two solutions
Make it cosmetic, so you can essentially just mog your two handers into one handers. Probably the easiest and most likely to be accepted by the players
Make it a choice node again, where you pick between TG or SMF, and the loot spec for fury always drops one handers. You must pick arms for your loot spec to get two handers.
Either way, PLEASE blizzard, do SOMETHING! With mountain thane now being a thing, SMF is really the truest form of the spec’s inspiration, so it sucks that this is still so…ignored. My transmog is built around one handers, and my two hander mogs are just placeholders
The only chance for SMF to have any chance of being used over TG is for there to be absolutely busted cantrip 1h weapons in the same tier for strength users.
Basically never going to happen unless they actually make SMF a node that’s not only equal to TG, but an increase over losing 1 point elsewhere in the tree.
This thread has made me come to realize that there is only 3 non DPS related talents in the fury tree, and you need at least 2 of them to get to get rampage
That’s pretty normal for spec trees, spec nodes are all just mostly throughput increases for builds. Most defensives or utility is in the class tree.
It’s actually pretty odd to have them in the spec tree comparing to other specs in the DPS role.
If the choice would be active anyways only when the particular weapon choice is followed, why would you not simply baseline both?
You know what, fair point. That would work fine too. Only problem i’d imagine is if they ALSO did this
I bet a lot of new players would get confused that their fury warrior never gets 2h drops. Having it be a choice node where you have to start fury as a dw 1h spec then unlock TG later might teach loot specs a bit better to new players.
But that’s a minor issue and probably worth a bit of confusion to make it simpler
