Sleepers Tomb like zone and events

Do you think the WoW community could handle a zone like the Sleepers Tomb from back in the day?

For those that dont know The Sleepers Tomb was an uninstanced raid zone with 5 bosses, 4 that were attackable and 1 that was unattackable until the other 4 were dead at the same time. Waking the final would cause the 4 “guardians” to permenantly despawn from the game world and the 5th would rampage from one zone to the other killing anything in its path with a “Deathtouch” before reaching its destination and despawning for good as well.

The EQ community worked together for years to prevent the Sleeper from awakening so they could farm those raid bosses, taking turns and keeping a cycle going before people started to purposefully wake the sleeper. Do you think the WoW community would be abke to handle something like that, or do you think people would be unable to handle it and ruin it for everyone?

The closest WoW had to The Sleeper would probably be Scarab Lord for AQ.

In today’s WoW, I don’t think the community is there for something massive like The Sleeper. Too many selfish people, including streamers, would want that for themselves and their guild. Then add in the trolls that would only be looking for a way to ruin it for everyone else.

There aren’t enough, for lack of a better phrase, old school gamers in one place to pull it off. I mean, look at the EQ thread and all the responses. I would be surprised if more than 2 people commenting in there were on the same server.

Yes, I am rambling. Just woke up. The magic bean juice hasn’t kicked in yet with it’s +50 to Clarity. TL;DR - Would love to see a Sleeper like event again, but sadly this isn’t the game for it.

This generation of gamers are not ready for anything like the Sleepers Tomb.
Everyone wants the easiest path and instant gratification.
Imagine the WoW community losing exp on death, and possibly losing a level? Majority would need therapy…

This thread is weird. Framing progressing the narrative and taking a part in a big epic as a negative, lol.

It’s like whining about ringing the gong because it “deprived others the chance to progress and get scarab lord”. The point is to ring the gong, not to not ring the gong, even if ringing the gong removes content for other players.

But its not just progressing the narrative. Its thpremenantly removing hypothetical current content. When those bosses were current on EQ they dropped some of the best weapons at the time, and the 5th boss dropped nothing and was confirmed to drop nothing.

So you would remove some of the (again) hypothetical best gear for the sake of narrative?

We can’t even handle a community feast. How in the world would we handle something like that? That thing would be rampaging instantly.

For a game like Everquest, sure. I’d be firmly in team #AwakenTheSleeper. EQ has no true goal or seasonal goal, you just kind of play the game, so from my point of view doing something meaningful and real that actually moves the game in some direction matters a lot more than whether Tommy can farm his Runesword of Fiery Death.

I remember this one rare in Korthia last expac (Consumption, I think?), it would be active, but transform into a harder rare with better loot after eating so many critters. Trolls would attack it as soon as it came up and prevent others from trying to reset it so it could keep building stacks and transform, and they’d do it for a fair amount of time.

I could easily see this being a thing that gets the same treatment.

At least on some TLP’s the guilds communicate some to let everyone at least hit the mini bosses. Sometimes anyways. Waking the sleeper is kinda cool though, I was glad I got to experience it and I think everyone should. But with EQ the progress is short lived for the drops so ultimately it’s not a big deal. It’ll all be replaced when the next 8 week cycle rolls out and you’re in a new expac. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Imagine hitting 1% on Raz Mythic and seeing “THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKENED” flash on your screen. Instant raid wipe.

So many people would be big mad lol.

What would make it funnier is: The Sleeper Has Awakened by Yourmom (character name)

Today’s players wouldn’t handle this. Back then there were “Gentlemen’s Agreements” about killing 3 and leaving the 4th until some uber guild farmed it to death and then killed the 4th as an FU to everyone else,

Now it would be more than a week or 2 and guilds will be going for the Epeen prize of awakening the sleeper

Can’t remember his real name. I know he was kinda at the center of the S.A. Stuff last year. Furor though was his character name.

Sleepers tomb event was cool but somewhat superfluous in that it’s a one off that isn’t repeatable. The kerafirm “natural disaster” sweeping the zones kinda already happened for wow in the cata launch event when deathwing did the same thing.

The actual st farm was kinda boring outside the excitement of getting keyed. Once you had your avatar weapon you never went back.
