Just a PSA from recent experience. A lot of older players like myself are still into the game. When you have sleep apnea you aren’t sleeping well you’re really taxing your brain with the increased skill cap in all aspects of the game. You run the risk of stroke and god knows what else. Of course, lose the weight. Also, 50% show improved sleep apnea with tongue exercises AKA orofacial exercises AKA myofunctional exercises. Easily youtubeable. With a toned and resilient tongue the muscle it isn’t flabby and hanging down when you try to sleep blocking your inhale. Talk to a doctor to verify. Am I allowed to post this?
I’m not old enough to not find this phrase funny.
I found the weight you mention was the biggest factor for me. Went from 95 to 65 and so many things in my life have improved. Sleep, perception of others, general feeling of wellness, activity level, no more snoring.
(209 pounds to 143 pounds for Americans)
Should probably disclaim that YouTube is not a good place to ‘do your research’ for medical advice. Other than that, off-topic PSA away…yeah probably shoulda put this on the off-topic board.
Piggy-backing off of Greesebosse, if you think you might have sleep apnea, talk to a doctor about it. They’ll probably recommend a sleep study, which is very poorly named because there’s damned little sleeping that goes on during said study.
I’ve been using a CPAP machine for five or six years now, I forget precisely how long. It works quite well. I sleep through the night undisturbed more often than not, where before I’d wake up three or four times during the night.
Thx for reply. I edited it. I wish I could tolerate cpap. I tried man. One mask is worse than the next. We’ll see how tongue exercises work. My gf approves btw.
Hello, I see you posted a thread about sleeping, Haha, this is pretty much the answer for most things when it comes to health! The amount of ailments linked to obesity is pretty staggering to think about, haha!
Thanks for your post and have a great day!
Sorry, 95 lb to 65 lb?
Kilos I’m guessing
Do…do you mean Kilos or Pounds
I can tell you that sleep apnea and warcaft have nothing in common
Thanks for that.
The fun part is that your airway doesn’t become blocked until you fall asleep, lol. Even with my CPAP, I still sometimes wake up feeling like I’m suffocating.
Do you feel your lack of sleep is affecting your game?
Not as much around late afternoon. I’m dead tired at the start and end of the day.
Same boat my friend. I’m hitting the higher keys in mythics and really feeling it. My hair is turning white. I had to go to hardcore. I hope to be back soon.
I also use a CPAP machine, but I don’t have a full mask or even just a nose mask. Instead, I have this little “pillow” thing that sits under my nose that blows air to keep my airway open.
Or, if you prefer, check out this thing called Inspire. It is implanted under your skin by your right collarbone and is turned on and off by remote. It sends electrical stimuli to the back of your tongue to keep it from falling back and blocking your airway. Just don’t forget to turn it off in the morning. Anyway, the nurse of one of my students has it, and she swears by it. The only reason I don’t have it is that the doctor certified to perform the procedure is out of my health network, and I can’t afford to pay the whole thing out of pocket.
NICE tip bro. I saw that it whilst googling might be an option. TY!! What’s the brand name of the pillow?
I found little ways to cope in the game as I aged.
First, buy the highest gear you can afford for the max level in the AH right at the beginning of the expansion. Example, Level 70 crafted gear for DF. When the toon reaches 70 they put the gear on and go about their business. Prices are usually lowest in the first patch. When a new patch comes out, do it again at the beginning when it’s cheaper if you care about item level. There will always be shortcuts to quickly level up your gear in each patch making all that hard work in dungeons, raids and battlegrounds pretty meaningless.
If you are still dead set on crafting, buy all the materials you need to max out your crafting - OR - do Darkmoon Faire every month to get a lousy +5 in your profession. Otherwise, don’t worry about crafting it’s not worth the pain and struggle. The only fun profession left is Fishing.
Your flag toon should be the one that starts the new expansion from beginning to end gaining reputation, story lines, achievements and titles. After that, play the flag toon casually and move on to your other toons just to get them to max level.
Do you need gold? Buy a WoW Token and sell it on the AH. There is NO MORE stigma in doing that and it sure beats “farming”.
Want to know how the story progresses? Look on the internet. Someone put a video of it on there. Why worry about raids and dungeons just to see a cut scene?
Get the 6 month subscription. It pays for itself and provides gifts for your loyalty. You jump on casually or wipe out a whole day playing the game. At this point, the WoW Forums are more fun than the expansion!
