So if we return to Azeroth after SL and we die fighting the next big bad. Are we able to just port back from SL to Azeroth?
Not talking in game spirit healers. I’m talking like thrall kills garrosh and is garrosh able to just jump through our opener portals now that Azeroth is linked to SL?
Do they address this at all in game?
Do the faction leaders just not tell anyone about the realms of death?
We are mortals traveling to SL, so we have freedoms that spirits going to SL do not.
If we theoretically died, we’d be in the SL permanently unless something is otherwise tethering our spirit to Azeroth. The heroes of Azeroth would know about the Shadowlands, but the average Joe from Orgrimmar or Stormwind likely would not.
SPOILERS, no… Garrosh is now in a place no one is coming back from (he’s presumably not in the Shadowlands).
Probably not…
This.
Garrosh blew his own soul up to kill that Mawsworn torturer. He’s gone for good.
I think if we died, we’d stay there, just with a lot more friends among the rulers of the afterlives. Though given how many sources of resurrection exist in the setting, I’m not sure how secure the Shadowlands are.

Per the Mag’har recruitment chain, at some point after WoD the connection between Alt. Draenor and Azeroth was disconnected. So the way I see it, at some point after Shadowlands, lore wise the connection between Azeroth and the Shadowlands will disconnect, especially since the Ebon Blade who maintain the connection will be officially leaving Oribos to help fight the Scourge and the various Warlords that are popping up.
I thought this was addressed in the Maw starting Quests.
Mortal beings of Azeorth have a “link” to the world that basically gives us a “second chance” upon death.
(Demons have a “link” to the twisting nether, which basically overrides the Arbiter)
When a Champion of Azeroth dies, their soul is caught halfway between reality (so this includes places like Outlands) and the Shadowlands, in the Veil of Death.
Here, spirit rezzers give the Champions of Azeroth a chance to come back to life before passing to the Arbiter for judgement.
If a Champion of Azeroth dies and chooses to NOT take their second chance, they will pass to the Arbiter and receive judgement, sending them to their respected realm.
Here they would become a “spirit” and the only way for them to come back to Azeroth would be in the form of a spirit or a summon.
If you try to click on a portal as a spirit, it says “You can’t do that while you’re Dead.”
what I don’t understand is that death in SL has to be reincarnation otherwise the eternal cycle is hilariously lopsided. If Ardenweald is the only place where nature reborn takes place, then majority of souls are kept in the Shadowlands when they should eventually be reborn in life IE reincarnation.
But that is my headcanon as there is soo many things about Shadowlands not explained or not fully explained. I really hate this expansion when it comes to the lore as it really doesn’t make any sense even when put up against just basic criticisms…
