Is SL purchase required for prepatch?

From what I’ve googled and from memory, prepatches did not require you to purchase the upcoming xpac.
Not 100% sure. Just from what I remember and found on google in other forums.

Nope, no need for purchase to make use of anything in the prepatch.
Nope, the pre-patch and all the stuff in it affect everyone whether you buy it or not.

No, but you will not be able to do anything when shadowlands is out.
I mean, they’ll still be able to access BFA and earlier content…
Yes, it’s basically the reverse of the OP’s question.
You don’t need to buy shadowlands for the pre-patch.
But all of the changes implemented in Shadowlands, except the zones and related content, are forced on you.
The way your class play, any spell changes, item squish, changes to pre-shadowlands gear, all that is forced on you whether you want it or not.
It’s the main reason why people seek out private servers, to experience the content as it existed during that expansion. Now we will have expansion servers, I predict for TBC and Wrath, in addition to Classic, which let you experience the content as it was during the expansion.
If you actually love BFA, want to continue playing BFA, exactly as it is now, your only choice soon will be to be naughty and join a private server.
using blizzards own forum to encourage people to play on pirate servers sounds like a grand idea.

I’m pretty sure what’s shes saying is agents the TOS. Since privet servers are not allowed I don’t think advocating for someone to play on them is allowed ether.
Just be level 120 / 50 if you want to do the scourge event, if you can call it an event.
