SL 25% Demonic Nerf

I’m pretty salty that Demonic is being nerfed down to 6 seconds in SL.

It’s fine. We’ll still be highly competitive DPS and in a much better spot than a lot of other classes.

Because they prefer to nerf strong things instead of buff weak things.

They could have just buffed Momentum or Redesigned Nemesis to be both more powerful and more interesting. (Or made it baseline thereby effectively making the other options more appealing but that’s a personal argument of mine)

But nope, they went the lazy route.

if it makes you feel better, the buff to demonic appetite makes it so the uptime is the exact same.

Zug zug. They incorporate Eye of Rage into Demonic Appetite. Well, I really hope the nerf will help reduce the salt for our class, even though it’s no big nerf.
Anyway how did you DC today?

Now we are pigeon holed into talents though…

The upcoming havoc changes are a really big let down imo. Seems like they are trying to shrink the area between the skill floor and skill ceiling instead of expanding it.

I’m interested to see if it’ll make the other talent options more desirable.

Not totally interested in seeing momentum come back and be dominant. Don’t like sacrificing my mobility for damage. Especially with all of the “the floor is lava” mechanics they seem to like making these days.

The whole problem with the spec is there isn’t much of a gap to begin with. DH is still the new kid on the block, there really wasn’t much to change or that really has to change. Nerfs in some areas are needed though I know they suck when you main that class but lets be real DH has been top tier since they came out at everything and have almost never seen nerfs unless it was way way out there. These changes honestly wont change havoc output very much and somehow someone thought it was a good idea to make them even more mobile.

There’s nothing wrong with having easy passive talents for newer players. That should exist in every spec tbh. However, it would be nice to have more complex talent options that outperform if executed properly. Havoc doesn’t have that at all.

I kinda hope the extreme dominance of Unholy DKs in the MDI, and the relative rarity of DHs, will temper it a bit. Strategies are being defined by Unholy DK AoE burst, with commentators noting that not having one is likely a mistake. But ya, Havoc is OP, man. /s

UH has never been dominant before besides 1 team that doubled up on them. pretty sure havoc has been a top performer since it came out in raid/M+/pvp. are you really trying to debate Havoc not being better then UH at pretty much everything for the last two xpacs? I don’t want either nerfed to be honest but lets be real here DK hasn’t had a lot of time in the sun for the past while. and AOE is being capped.

What is the cap for udk in SL? 20?

  1. the same as every strong aoe ability…

The strength of Havoc over the last couple expansions is irrelevant to the discussion of current balance. This isn’t tit-for-tat, where a class or spec needs to go suck rocks for a couple years because it’s been good for a few. Havoc is strong, but it’s far from being the defining outlier right now, and the MDI proves this. Strategies are not made around Havoc, while strategies have consistently revolved around rogues and now DK.

To sling at you what others have been slinging at us, this just sounds like an OP class not wanting to be mortal again. Or something like that.

Ours is capped at 5. Also, thus far there’s no cap at all on most UH AoE. Death and Decay hits everything, and causes Scourge Strike to hit everything. Epidemic has no target cap, nor does Outbreak. The only thing getting a target cap is Bursting Sores, which while relevant, isn’t exactly going to break your insane AoE. And 8 target is still extremely high when a lot of melee AoEs are being capped at 5.

They’ve been doing that for multiple expansions across every class and spec, I don’t see why peeps are surprised to see that trend continue.

I mean, we do have those. The problem is, the baseline rotation is so absurdly basic that those “complex” talents really just bring us up to the same level as most other classes have before talents. It’s pretty easy to generate a build where the entire rotation is just spamming Chaos Strike and then using Eye Beam every 30s (Blind Fury, Demon Blades, Fel Barrage, Cycle of Hatred, and Demonic or Nemesis). That’s just horrifying.

has anyone tried out a fel blade demon blades spec out?? really dont enjoy any other build and was wondering if it will be competitive

The insane scaling on our DPS is because of bursting sores for the most part. and yes that pretty much is how it works classes end up OP for whatever reason and then they eventually get nerfed, its been the same cycle since at least BC. as far as not wanting to be nerfed is concerned no obviously not no one wants to see there class or spec nerfed but sometimes its needed. The reason strategy doesn’t revolve around Havoc is because it doesn’t have to, it takes planning and communication to properly make use of UH, Havoc is plug and play bang your face on the keyboard for consistent good results. Havoc has also been good at every aspect of the game since they came out. you can argue MDIs all you want but DH has been a big part of it all xpac and will continue to be. they have top tier damage in all scenarios besides spread cleave, they have the best mobility, great utility and strong survivability. you litereally have you cake and eat it to right now and pretty much no other class in the game has this type of overall dominance for the little amount of effort required. there is a reason the community in large part has been crying nerf havoc for years now…I don’t tend to agree I think the spec is well designed for current wow but your crazy if you don’t see where it comes from.

That and epidemic. And to be honest, since y’all’s cap is 60% higher than most melee, you’re still going to be absurdly dominant when it comes to AoE burst. There’s no two ways about it.

Nerfed, yes. But that’s not the same as it being intended that specs that are good for a bit are then useless for a bit. That’s a terrible way to balance. So no, Havoc’s strength over the past two expansions is not an excuse to kneecap them into oblivion. And it’s hilarious to hear that complaint coming from the class and spec that is absolutely mandatory in the current MDI.

The reason is because Havoc can’t turn AoE into stupifying single target damage. Also, because our sustained AoE is pretty average, and while our AoE burst is strong, it falls far behind the likes of Unholy and even Fire. Havoc is taken because it’s generally fairly strong in all of the areas needed in M+ while also having strong survivability and utility. Those things don’t make strategies.

Pulling 30 trash mobs on top of a boss and deleting a third of his health via Unholy AoE doing >2m DPS, on the other hand, does define strategies. Stop trying to pretend that Havoc is the problem here.

We’re at the 66th percentile (8th out of 24 specs) in Ny’alotha right now, and that’s with a number of fights with solid cleave/AoE opportunities. Our sustained AoE is also pretty average, and our burst AoE is strongly eclipsed by several other specs. We’re not weak, but we’re also not breaking the game like Unholy is atm.

Like seriously, an Unholy DK complaining about Havoc being OP. That’s absolutely hilarious. Might as well have a Fire mage complaining that Assassination single target burst is too strong.

you do realize UH has only really become strong enough to used in the MDI this patch and its part of the reason blizz is moving away from allowing mass aoe pulls. UH has had 1 thing going for them and that’s large pull aoe damage which is pretty much impossible to pull off in pug groups or with average tanks…you can try and side step all you want but havoc has been dominant since the start and as easy as it comes to play. it looks like your being brought down to earth a little for SL but will honestly still be the class of choice for people looking for no challenge and easy meter topping. keep living in fantasy land though, there is a reason you have to defend your spec constantly. enjoy it while you can lol. and honestly ill do the same, if it UH gets nerfed its because MDI abused it and that’s fine. the reason DH keeps coming up over and over is because they have had such staying power. they wont be blizz new toy forever tho and when that day comes I wonder if you will stick it out or just jump to the next easy op spec. That’s pretty much the last im gonna say on this thread I don’t think both of us whining when we are both mostly wrong very helpful lol especially since im judging your spec over a 2+year time frame and your judging mine on a 2day MDI time frame…lol

Seems like you’ve missed the past few MDIs there, bud.

Also, please learn how to use some paragraphs. It makes it painful to read like this.
