Skyboxes and old zones

I’m seeing a lot of improved models that carry over to old zones (gnolls and boars in west fall for example) and it’s really jarring when taking in the outdated pixels of the environment.

I would love for a world revamp, but staying with realistic goals first, could the devs take a look at the skyboxes in the old zones? At least starting with stormwind and org?

Stormwinds looks particularly bad right now.

Would require too much effort and it’s not a priority.

What, you don’t like your Minecraft skies?

Perhaps there’s a way to mass revamp the foliage on some of those hexagonal trees.

I’m sure blizzard would also love a world revamp but it’s just so much work for frankly very little payoff

Edit: i was informed new players are put into a newer zone to start their adventure

The payoff is new players… if a brand new player hops into WoW and has to level through crunchy Classic zones, they’ll think the game looks like crap and leave, even though it’s not a reflection of what WoW looks like anymore.

New players get funneled into battle for azeroth

If Blizzard would allow player side cosmetic mods we would already have 8K HD revamps of everything in the old world.

Oh do they? Didn’t know that! Ty for info

Everyone’s 1st run through has to go to bfa. Chromie time is not available. Nothing stops anyone from exploring on their own… But the game will not direct you to do that

A world revamp isn’t super necessary, but a skybox update does a worlds of difference to make a zone look better.

i just wish the Crashed Spaceship, and Silver moon (and their respected zones) would be brought into the rest of azeroth, and updated so we could fly in those zones!

and yes i know this is like a “we would like to but does it really matter in New expansion” and i think honestly the WORLD of warcraft should be just that, and all the “zones” should be on the planet, though the Tech challenge im sure of having Kul Teris/Northern viewable from Eastern kingdoms is ALOT to ask. it would simply be dammmmm cool

BfA skyboxes were amazing and would fit right into most old world zones.

While true, they don’t do a good enough job at keeping them there in that content.

Jump in Newcomer Chat as a guide if you can. At least once a day there’s someone that wandered away from the BfA quests that’s suddenly confused as to why they stopped gaining XP. 100% odds that they are not in a BfA zone, 50/50 on if they start to get highly frustrated and more confused if you try to explain to them that they have to go back to the BfA zones.

Hell, I’ve seen people that have managed to wander into Wailing Caverns all alone on their very first character.

I get what Blizzard was trying to do, but it just seems to be way too easy for folks to just totally ignore the BfA quests in much the same way that a person can play Skyrim for the first time and barely touch the main quest. RPGs in general are meant for exploration, and in hindsight it just seems like funneling everyone into BfA might not be a good idea in that regard.

Chromie Time isn’t a bad idea in concept, but I personally think it needs to be retooled for max level usage. If quests on the Dragon Isles in Patch 10.0 are giving 380 greens and 388 blues, then have that random quest in Westfall give the same reward at level 70 if you have CT active.

In the meantime, have all pre-DF content scale from 10-60. Seems like a much better idea considering how easy it is for a player to randomly wander away from the BfA quests and suddenly finding themselves in Ashenvale, the Barrens, Elwynn, Westfall, etc.

I remember seeing a video awhile back where someone edited the Freehold Skybox onto Durotar and it was a huge improvement. Old zones definitely need this. I’m tired of looking up into the sky and seeing pixel clouds…

Edit: Here’s the video if anyone’s interested.

Makes a huuuge difference!

Right? And it’d be so easy for Blizzard to do.

We’d also have nude characters with enormous . . . appendages.

There’s a very good reason Blizzard doesn’t allow player-side “artwork.”

There is always that, but I would argue who cares as it would only be player side and not server… see a streamer with it and insta ban

That’s already a thing, and was since Vanilla. IIRC the ban of clientside model mods came in WOTLK when people were running around as SFK Worgens with dual warglaives of Azinoth in some videos. Been a while though.

WoW might not be winning at being a top tier MMO at the moment, but no-one can deny it’s supremacy at Rule 34 content.

But all that aside, FF has a retexture mod I discovered that includes, quite literally, every enemy model in the game and downloading it made a huge difference in older content. It would be AMAZING if WoW would just let players do that and make Durotar look like something I couldn’t run on a PS2.
