Is there a generally agreed on symbol that dungeon and raid players use to mark a 3rd kill target?
I decided to get a marking addon and be more proactive about marking targets when I tank.

No square is universally the hard cc icon.
My experience has been that the Star came next as it was used as the sap target and by the time the first two went down the sap was coming up .
The point of the marking weakaura in dungeons isn’t for the purpose of kill order it’s so people can call their interrupts / cc in coms.

For some reason I always thought moon, though I can’t think of any specific time it’s been like that.

If you have a Mage and a Hunter in the group, you go after the moon before the square.

{triangle/losange} was for Banish or Hex or Wyvern Sting or Fear or Sleep
{circle/star} was for Sap or Shackle Undead
As you see, it losely followed class colors for who was doing which CC, or often the colors of the spell effect itself: Square for Frost Trap because Frost Trab is blue, Star for Sap because Rogues are yellow, Star for Shackle Undead because Shackle Undead has a yellow-ish visual, Triangle for Sleep / Wyvern Sting because the ‘Zzz’ effect is green…
Usually, kill order went Skull, X, Square.

Because star can’t be re-cc’d.

Been so long since I priested back in Vanilla.
We ended up using the orange thing for sap because of Sunken Temple. Shackled the undead trolls and sap’d the live ones. The groups in the circular hall were mixed with living and dead.
Trolls don’t discriminate.
X yes square no. Square is hard cc. That’s the thing you kill last or sometimes not at all “super bolstering a knife thrower,” and it’s used because it’s so bright and noticeable.
Hah, sounds like there are a few opinions.
It was called DejaMark I think? I looked at a few. What sold me on this one is that it is small, assigned to a keybind and it pulls up a popout menu on my mouse cursor location, so I can click something, hold the bind, click a marker and let go. Looks useful. Imma be a moar fun tank noe.
On the rare occasion where I’m tanking and there’s more than two priority targets, I can typically find the time to update the target markers.

Reshackle was an option for priests. Rogues could also burn a vanish and resap, provided the group was pulled away from the sapped target, but star always came after X due to every other class being able to re-cc.
