Skinning/Leatherworking Knowledge

Greetings,

I just came back to WoW after taking the last expansion off. Got me this newest expansion and leveled my to mains through Dragon Flight content pretty easy and not worrying about item level. Now that I just hit 80 on 1 of my mains, I wanted to know whats the best way to gain Profession Knowledge. Currently item lvl is 520 and want to level it up to be raid finder or even normal raid ready geared. Im mostly a solo player so Im not looking for super high item level. With that said I also want to better my professions. If anyone know of a very good detailed guide on where and what to farm, how the new use the new system, (I skipped Dragon Flight so Im not familiar with it) Mainly Im looking for help with skinning/leatherworking and mining/blacksmith and any additional info anyone can provide would be grateful. Thanks

WoWhead. Its all there, read that and start doing those Patrons WOs. Get the weak aura that display your weekly KPs and the number of catchups you are entitled to and you are ready to boogie.

Thanks for the assist, but could you elaborate on the work orders and what are KP and catchups. I take it that weak aura is an addon correct?

KPs stands for knowledge points. Crafting orders is part of the crafting windows, it has a tab called patrons orders where npcs list work orders for items that gives 2 KPs and 10 artisans acuity each. You get a number of those throughout the week. If you cannot do them all, you will get catch ups WOs the week after. Those give 1KPs/5 AAs items. You also get the lion’s share of you AAs from the patrons WOs.

Weak auras is an add on yes. I do not use it much except for the script that tracks the weekly KPs. It’s called something Myu. I do not have the name by heart, but it’s quite simple to find.

Join a group killing and skinning bees and wolve on Dorn, they’ll drop a bunch of Knowledge point items for you and you can get tons of materials to level up your own LW. There’s also a couple places in Azj-Kahet that are farmable solo that produce decent chitin and knowledge point items, one of the sky swarmer nest areas.

Weak auras is an addon you can find at curseforge. Search for “Weakauras” at that site and you will find it. Sorry I’d include a link but it won’t let me.

You can import scripts to the weak auras addon. You can find those at wago . io

Download the string from that site and import the string by pasting it into the import box within the WeakAuras addon. The weak aura script that Kaladnei is referencing is called “Myu’s Knowledge Point Tracker”. Just search wago for that. An alternative, smaller version that I use is called “TWW Weekly Profession Knowledge”.

Also, I would recommend the addon “No mats; no make”. Here is what the addon does:

  • Highlights in red any recipe which is not learned on your patron orders list
  • Warns you in red if you have a weekly profession quest to pick up when you open patron orders. That way you don’t accidentally start doing patron orders and go “d’oh I forgot to pick up the quest for crafting orders!”
  • Shows you on your patron orders list what the rewards are. You’ll see right away which ones give KP without having to click through them. 2 KP are the blue orb icons, 1 KP is the blue star icon
  • Shows what mats are missing (that you have to provide)
  • Allows you to swap between tools using a dropdown just like other character equipment, so you can have a resourcefulness tool and a multicraft tool, etc etc.
  • Shows you what the patron orders were from when you last saw them. That way, if you went all the way to the AH and you forgot what mats you needed to buy, you can open it up even though you’re not next to your crafting table.

To get to your patron orders:

  1. Click on your crafting table
  2. Go to the “Crafting Orders” tab
  3. In the crafting orders tab, you’ll see a Patron Orders tab at the top. IIRC you need to have at least 25 skill in the craft to see this.

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot guys. This really help. Happy New Year
