To vendor or not, that is the question. I see people advocating for both methods in various “how to make gold” threads.
I sold everything to the vendor and had enough gold to buy my mount as soon as I dinged 40.
I’m leaning towards vendoring because I don’t really have the patience for the AH.
Low level leather doesnt sell well on the AH due to high supply.
I vendor it.
Auctioneer actually suggests to on my server due to that. If sale value isnt over vendor price plus AH cut…
Do a periodic check of AH prices. For a while, higher level leather was selling at a profit. Lower level leather is basically vendor candy unless you want to be nice and sell for vendor cost in /2.
Depends on the market value of the individual material. I highly recommend tradeskillmaster.
As with everything, it depends on your server, and it will change over time as the markets evolve.
Check the vendor price (there is a nifty little addon called Vendor Price that lets you see this by hovering over the item). Check the lowest AH prices. If the two values are close, vendor it.
Also consider the deposit cost. If the deposit is high, and the potential profits to be made by posting it on AH don’t significantly outweigh the risk of eating the deposit if it doesn’t sell, I’d lean toward vendoring it.
I would say the vast majority of the time, up until Thick Leather, you should be vendoring. It really is not worth the time on the AH, you MIGHT make an additional 3s per stack on my server right now (talking about heavy leather). But often, if it doesnt sell at all you will just lose your deposit and you are in the hole 3s instead. Not worth the hassle.
Im so broke I sold my Hearthstone too
vendor is guaranteed sale. if storage wasn’t such a huge issue i’d say go for more gold on ah, but given the combination of low space and vendor guaranteed gold, i’d vend.
I vendor everything up to thick. Even thick leather sells so cheap you can churn it and make a bit of profit by crafting then vendoring the items if you have the patience.
I’m a leatherworker and even I vendor everything that I don’t need to level up.
As a leather worker, I simply make an item that will provide a skill up, then vendor the item.
i’m assuming OP doesn’t have leather working though?
No leather working, correct.
I’ve been vendoring my skins. Supply is too high for current demand.
I tried the auction house and I can’t sell anything for a reasonable price. It also sucks making the trip to Ironforge since I’m questing in Kalimdor. I’m at the point where I’m just gonna vendor most stuff.
On Bigglesworth people are putting stacks of low level leather (light/medium) on the AH for cheaper than it vendors. Totally not worth auctioning. With heavy I think (I haven’t reached a level where I can collect this yet) at best you can auction it for about the vendor price, but you still a) have to wait for it to sell ; b) risk it not selling at all ; c) lose money on AH costs either way.
There’s an AH in Darnassus (added AH to all major cities in patch 1.9).
Well I sure feel silly now. I hadn’t remembered them making that change so early. At last I know now.
I really don’t think the economy will really get pumping for at least 3 more weeks. If you pick up a plate item +10 Stam + 10 Str you might be able to sell it but don’t expect 10 gold… yet.
I picked skinning to level with and I vendor it all. It doesn’t really give that many silvers, but atp in the game I don’t think many will be buying much leather.
