Why does skinning get such little knowledge compared to Herbalism and Mining? Guildies having nearly double the amount… Having picked up the profession later.

Maybe because there are so many more opportunities to skin. I maxed out skinning as soon as I arrived in The Waking Shore in probably 15-20 minutes, before I even turned in the first set of quests in Wingrest Embassy. I doubt folks with herbalism or mining were able to do that.

OK… But for those of us who did the same thing and have been skinning a lot since then, why are we not gaining knowledge?

I feel like the amount of opportunities available for Skinning is irrelevant to the issue.
I have spent just as much time Skinning as I have Mining or gathering Herbs, and I only have 4 Knowledge total on my Skinning, as opposed to 50+ Knowledge on my other gathering professions.
There is definitely an issue with how much Knowledge is granted from Skinning interactions.

Wow, that’s a huge difference. I have 16 points in skinning & 14 in LW, so neither one seemed to me like an outlier.

Same issue here. I’ve got 35 knowledge points in leatherworking and 11 in skinning. They need to bump up skinning or something.

Has anyone figured out if Skinning is bugged or timegated for knowledge? Seems like I have skinned over 500-600 mobs and have gotten 0 knowledge. It just seems odd.

They are all time gated. You can only get so many drops per week.
If they’re time gated then skinning has the worst of it; made 2 alts and they both have more knowledge in herbalism/mining than I have in skinning.
Yeah, skinning is REALLY bad atm… even after getting all the optional stuff it’s so far “behind” all other professions.
Having the same issue here, I had 14 knowledge in skinning for the longest time, skinned well over 1000 mobs at this point and I have gotten 29 knowledge over all after a week of skinning (with getting the secret trainer and doing darkmoon faire). Meanwhile I made a brand new herbalism character that has nearly 50 after an hour of play. I thought all gathering profs were as bad as skinning until I made a char with herbalism. Something’s definitely been overlooked
Mining and Herbing have +10 Knowledge from NPC’s.
All professions do. But that makes the issues even worse when skinning is still so far behind.

Let’s hope this is fixed with the reset. Cos I have been level 100 skinning for a long time now and I just don’t get any points past 15.

I think that skinning is tied to the difficulty of the mob skinned. I have ~50 points of knowledge in skinning and I find that most of the time it comes from skinning the elite+ mobs that are part of the hunt events. I have also had a good amount of +1 from the elite named dragons near the dragonscale camp in waking shores. These named mobs have like a 30 second respawn time and you can move from each to the next very quickly.
I am currently 66, my skinning is at 100, i’ve killed and skinned rares, quest elites, 5 player elites and everything else in between. I have zero knowledge. Zero.
Where is the skinning guy that gives 10 knowledge?
On a side note I started to get skinning drops again after the weekly reset plus 3 from the weekly.
That’s becusae it’s time gated per week (the drops)
I still dont understand how some people are still saying they are getting massive amounts of skinning knowledge from x activity… Like ive been doing hunts for almost 2 hours now skinning the elites and have gotten nothing. I havent gotten any knowledge items since the day of reset and it was maybe 5-6 drops.
