I am Alliance, there was a group of Horde pulling massive mobs to skin them. One whispered me and said to stop, that is was taking from them. Is this true? Why would Blizz allow stealing?
No. Multiple people can all skin the same mob now, just like multiple people can mine the same ore node or gather the same herb.
Ya, but it may be causing the dead mob to disappear faster, before the people who killed it can skin it. But I figure if Blizz designed it this way, then it should be fine. They said 8 people in their group complained and theyâre trying to ban me. Not sure if that can happen because I am not doing anything wrong, necessarily.
I havenât had skinning in a while. Does it allow the mob to be skinned before it is looted or does it still have to be looted first?
Were you even helping to kill the mobs or were you just following them around and looting the bodies? Because the latter behavior is bad form even if you werenât causing the bodies to disappear faster.
Keep doing your thing, they cant get you banned for playing the game as intended. Alternately, if they keep telling you to go away and threatening you, you can report them for harassment. Chances are its a guy running some kind of bot or multiboxing.
LolâŚno itâs not. Literally doesnât matter in the slightest.
Exactly this⌠A large part of the reason they made skinning multi-tap was because skinners were having trouble not being able to skin their own things. It used to be a problem, itâs not anymore.
Humanoid skinning when?
Yes it does. Like an herb or ore deposit, each animal can only be skinned a certain amount of times.
You could skin Worgen in Duskwood at one time. Maybe still?
Iâll skin what I wanna skin and if they got a problem with it⌠oh well. Iâm also an herbalist, so this is not my battle.
You are not breaking any rules and donât be scared by the threat to mass report it will not get you banned. At worst it will get you silenced in chat until a GM looks into it but only a GM can ban you not a report.
I assume nothing disappears when I interact with it. But then on world quests, things will disappear and I feel bad if someone was there.
You do you, but I think itâs lame to not even contribute to killing the mobs that youâre looting. No it doesnât hurt anything and I wouldnât be enough of a baby to whine and threaten reports over it, but I would certainly feel some kind of way if I noticed someone following me around and doing nothing at all but skinning the mobs immediately after I killed them. At least help kill them faster is all Iâm saying.
This reminds me of a time way back when I was killing mobs for a quest and someone was following me around, tapping the mobs once with a ranged ability, and then they would sit there and let me do all the work killing them for quest credit. I get that same kind of leechy vibe from someone waiting for you to kill the mobs so they can swoop in and skin them.
In my opinion itâs the principle, not the harm.
First of all, no this is not a thing - you donât steal anyoneâs skins by skinning anything on retail.
Secondly, the reason why they might have whispered you is because one of the most common ways to abuse bots is in groups like these. Not always but frequently enough that you can assume all of these â4x2â groups are abusing at least one bot to keep everything centralized to make it easy to skin, loot, etc.
So the dude whispering you may have been a person upset that you were gaining something whilst not part of their group, they couldâve been upset that a mob despawned faster and blamed you for it, they may have wanted to get you to interact with them to say something to be able to report you just as a way to scare you away, or it couldâve simply been a person not knowing better and saying stuff that they didnât know anything about.
We quite literally know nothing as to what may or may not have been going on. But my personal recommendation is to stay away from those groups because of how often they utilize bots. So if a group like that is abusing bots and someone comes around and reports the group for it, thereâs a non-zero chance you might get swept up with 'em.
Best thing to do is to see if a group uses a bot as part of it, report 'em if they do, and then go elsewhere.
People make a choice to form groups to farm whatever it is they want to farm. If its something involving skinning, then its up to them to skin the bodies in a timely manner. The game is designed so that any skinner who comes by within the timer for the corpse to disappear can skin. Say again, its designed to work that way.
It is as much your right to skin those corpses as it is for the person who killed it - they donât own the mobs, they are a game item/resource the same as a herb or ore node. Members of 4x4 groups may not like it, but thatâs the chance they take when they kill skinnable mobs.
Of course, if you want to contribute and fire off some attacks to add to the mayhem, thereâs no harm in doing that either as they get to skin whatever you kill.
I was helping, even though it wasnât much compared to the power their group had.
Agreed, but only IF Iâm finding it difficult to handle the mobs without taking repair damage myself. Being a BM with my own tank(s), thatâs not very often.
As for the OPâŚI think those skin famers were just upset that someone else was getting the same mats that they planned to profit from on the AH. They saw you as financial competitionâŚand that simply makes me glad you were there to raise their collective blood pressures.
just pm âlolâ back and carry on skinning , what they gonna do ? send you a court order ?
They were just being ridiculous then and it does sound like they were only salty that you were potential competition in the market. Even if you had just sat there they would have no claim against you, it would just have made their reaction more understandable.
