In game, is there a way to know if a mob is skinnable before you kill it? Any addons that will tell you?
Not by default, though I think the addon GatherSage2 does that.
I looked up that addon. it’s for classic.
You can look at the mob’s type. If it’s not a “beast” or “dragon kin” you’re probably not skinning it.
yeah but now some beasts aren’t skinnable, but are instead mineable… I don’t want to waste my time killing a beast that isn’t skinnable.

The ramolith (rocksheep) on the isle of dorn are beasts but you mine them not skin them.
Also some spiders can be skinned but others can’t even though they are both beasts.
That’s the OPs problem.

Exactly what happened.
Me: “cool a sheep, lets get some leather, (kills it), wth mining?!”
I go for those unicorn goats in Dorn, they are kinda scattered but I eventually get my KP items. Otherwise I’d try the area in hallowfall where you kill bats and giant wasps? Always someone there killing em for that quest anyway.
When i do my weekly skinning drop farms I do the sporebats by the sheep farm on Dorn. the goat things spawn there as well & u can Sharpen Your Knife on Warphon the rare once a day while you’re at it.
