Hello!
I have a level 51 Mage. I’m trying to catch up on my pre-Shadowlands Alchemy recipes.
I think I’ve found a game bug that makes it impossible to learn Legion Alchemy recipes past a certain point if you try learning them after level 50?
In the quest chain “Vault of the Wardens: Demon’s Bile” it’s necessary to drink Skaggldrynk to see a lock on a dungeon door to access and kill Grimoira.
However, characters that are level 50 or higher can no longer drink Skaggldrynk. Therefore, the lock cannot be revealed or opened, Grimoira can’t be killed, and the entire quest chain for Legion Alchemy grinds to a halt.
I’ve tried using alternative invisibility potions like the Potion of Hidden Spirit, and although the lock appears on the door to Grimoira’s room after drinking it, it can’t be used or interacted with.
Does this have an alternative workaround?
If not, any character that didn’t get past this point before Shadowlands will not be able to learn any new Legion Alchemy recipes beyond this point in the quest chain.
Which also means it’s now impossible to learn all available Legion Alchemy recipes if you don’t do it before you hit level 50. It can’t be done retrospectively.
Does an alternative means to progress past this point exist? Is it just a case of drinking the right potion alternative?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Same problem here. Would appreciate help if anyone knows a workaround!

Same problem. I hope they fix it soon, I hate leaving the quests undone.

I’m also stuck here. Almost level 51, which is apparently too high to drink the Skaggldrynk. Bummer.

Adding my own 2 copper bits for this; even if you just make the drink usable right in front of that door and nowhere else for 50+, that would be fine.
EDIT: I feel the need to point out that the Skaggldrynk is also needed two quests later in order to get one of Khadgar’s silver hairs, and, of course, can’t use it there either

I’m having an issue but in Shadowlands dungeons not being allowed to use my Shadowlands pots … apparently I’m too small to use them …
In respect to your issue - I can’t remember, but can another alchemist use the potion, open the lock allowing you to complete the quest that way? It is a while since I’ve done that quest line but have a vague memory of this workaround.
Hi Jarace (others)-
The vault quest CAN BE completed above level 50 (i.e., the character can consume the Skaggldrynk potion in the dungeon). At least, I was able to after several times. The trick is you need to first kill all bosses on that level before popping the potion. Try this:
- Reset dungeon instance.
- Enter with at least two potions (to be safe).
- Clear all bosses on that level (esp. Inquisitor Tormentorum, but I killed everyone to be sure).
- Go to door and drink potion.
- The potion ‘should’ work and allow you to interact with door.
- BE SURE to let Grimoira hit you with her bile cone. This is what had me redo quest several times. I basically walked up to her, punched her one time, then stood there till she hit me with the bile cone. Otherwise, you won’t get credit for
“Submerge the Demonsbreath Crucible in Grimoira’s bile” portion of quest.
- After that, be sure to clear dungeon boss and that should work.
All that being said, as another user posts, you need to use Skaggldrynk for a later quest, “The Price of the Black Market,” and I could not find a way to make potion work; kept getting ‘character too high level.’ It also appears that WoW is aware of this but have no bug fix at this time.
So, you can clear this quest to get you to another blocked quest. Hope this helps?

Having the same problem, level 60, was able to use the potion during the dungeon, but can’t for The Price of the Black Market. Blocks that entire quest line and my ability to max out my Legions Alchemy skill
