SIREN ISLES: Some Thoughts

Here we go! Alrighty, let’s unpack!

  1. Lingering Shadows: Actually intriguing. We got more of the Haranir to justify their cinematic cameos here and there. And the female one is growing on me. Though I have to admit the big reveal of the villain being a certain Trade-Prince felt kinda… Kinda like… You know when they say they’re making a D&D film and suddenly a Wayne Brother is in it? That feeling of “Oh… Huh… That didn’t go the way I thought it would…”
  2. Fate of the Kirin Tor: Some dude confused me a few days ago saying they disbanded. I kinda liked the direction it was going, restructuring is needed for sure. But… In the whole “Stay Awhile and Listen” stuff we get here and there, Khadgar mentions Modera… where’re the other members of the council? where’s modera in a questline where the Kirin Tor is being “REFORMED”. Furthermore… Of all things… why would… the whole mana bomb thing… Why not instead bring up all the Demonic PRISONERS that are now free!? Sweeping that under the rug though, i would’ve been fine if I didn’t listen to that last Stay a While and listen prompt. So they’re… “Advisors” they’re “Trainers” no longer… And no leaders… You don’t have a place, no leadership, we still don’t know if the council is mostly dead or not, and now they aren’t going to help us, they’re going to tell us things? They’re suddenly “Scared” of everything? After all they’ve faced they’re shying away now? When they’ve… been the magic police, protecting azeroth from demons and the like… When Xala’tath is in full swing they’re like. “I’m out!”… I’d’ve liked it better if Khadgar had died…
  3. The Siren Isle: Probably the most awkward part; It may be because I’m really late to the party but, the major questlines do not connect with the island at all. The Story and the Island are separate entities for the most part… Why go? Why should I go? How does this…

I’m confused! Lingering Shadows started out with some promising yet weak intrigue, I wanted to play more… Now there isn’t really anything to do again and the story is as meh as it was before…
And this is another 2 patch expansion too… I’ve got more enjoyment from Starfield than in TWW. And everyone knows what Starfield is.
“Oh, but they’re bringing plunderstorm back”
I’m not a fortnite kid! If you want to hold me over give me another remix!
At least there’s SOD though… But, I’ve never felt so bored of Live before, and angry with it at the same time.
Ya got me looking at classic Ultima games and Baldur’s Gate 1 Blizz, At TES Online TES ONLINE! Ya got me thinking about Runescape, how’re you getting worse and worse!?
Is this like that thing where you’re no longer the target audience? Am I so out of touch? Actually I am. So out of touch I’m looking at classic games when i’m TWENTY-TWO YEARS OLD!

Excuse me, that D&D movie with a Wayans brother is a treasure and that is a hill I will die on. Fite me :hocho: I am Damadar

I will say this: my overall impression of TWW is it’s alright, but with the anniversary being very TW heavy, now we have Turbulent Timeways, then we are getting Plunderstorm. I also heard we are getting MoP remix again. It’s a lot of filler content. A lot.

And so soon? Eh. Not long enough for me to miss it again.

And I thought DF was meant to be the kind of filler expansion or a palate cleanser of sorts. TWW seems like more of that, except it’s a lot of rehashed content.

Not that that’s a bad thing. But that’s what it is. Mostly rehashed content. I almost feel like it’s been nonstop rehashed content because the new fresh stuff can’t really stand alone. But time will tell! I’m not underwhelmed but I’m certainly not overwhelmed. Just whelmed.

Maybe there’s still time to get Jeremy Irons to voice Gallywix.

The cadence is all over the place.

Anniversary certainly kinda messed up the patches, imo.

Siren’s Isle is basically a side-story.

Yes it’s tangentially related to TWW, but it’s really nothing to do with Xal’atath.

Just more Azeroth historical stuff with more memories and flashbacks to prior points in history.

More setup for the Arathi, and some for the Goblins as we transition over to Undermine in 11.1.

I feel like focusing on story, Blizzard kinda shot themselves in the foot- you’re just never gonna get the depth you desire in an MMO.

Others have done it, but in WoW I’ve yet to see it pulled off.

The characters a revolving door, and none stick around for longer than one expansion without disappearing for another few years.

Can’t get attached when that keeps happening.

The gameplay is all people stick around for anymore, the lore is okay but again other games just do it better.

Legion was the last time I was really invested, BfA onwards I just stopped caring lol.

Too much happening offscreen.

My dad was always into D&D and as a kid I would watch him play Neverwinter Nights and Shadows of Amn until I fell asleep. He got the movie when it came to DVD and it instantly became one of my favorites. I’d have to go digging through boxes in the basement but I might still have it around here somewhere.

I stopped playing WoW like a month after Cataclysm came out, and came back just as Siren Isle was released. I just finished the Kirin Tor storyline and am heading to the Isle now… So I feel I have a very strong contrast in my mind since I basically haven’t done any content in between except a little bit of DF to level to 70. I can honestly say what’s lacking is the War aspect of World of Warcraft. Every storyline is more an emotional conflict between two people or between one person and their own emotions. It’s big bad guys vs. misunderstood emotionally vulnerable teenagers. I’m not saying it should be Warhammer dark, but geez…

Nope. No more unpacking. Cut it out.
