It feels like 90% of people, this is a great thing.
But I fall in this narrow range of people that … actually didn’t want this.

I believe the article said that the “ring + gems” would be equivalent to 658.

Nah, Kaivax said the ring is intended to compete with Heroic raid gear in Season 2, and be surpassed by mythic raid and high-end M+ gear.

This obviously isn’t true → ONCE IT’S FULLY UPGRADED…
…since the fully upgraded ring is = 658.
So… it’s kind of a verbal balancing act.

The blue post says it will start at item level 639 maybe I’m misunderstanding but that sounds like 639 with sockets to add gems too

The ring will be a strong start in season 2 and last until you get some strong upgrades, for a lot of players again I think will last a long long time

Gems and iLvl are separate things.
We will increase the iLvl of the ring per week and its gem powers acording to the lvl upgrade.
It starts at 639 blank (nO gems) and will stay 639 with gems socketed in first week.
