Single Boss mini Raid for RWF

I am following up on the concept Liquid Maximum had on his stream about releasing a single-boss raid mid-patch.

His idea was: a single boss, released on the tournament realm only, at the same time for EU and US on a Friday. Difficulty similar to Mythic Tinral. No dungeon journal. No testing. Let all guilds who sign up kill the boss. Stream it on Twitch, etc.

I really like the idea, especially the “no dungeon journal” aspect and the simultaneous release. Watching the best guilds to figure out the mechanics would be huge.

At the same time, his idea was to not release it on live servers. This is something I personally don’t like. I don’t see why, if this single-boss raid is released to bridge the time at the end of the last season this tier, the competition should not be on live servers and be accessible to all players.

By this time, everyone has more or less the same gear progression, and if the release does not come with an item level jump, but instead the loot of the boss is maybe just a sick transmog or mount and a title, then no splits, etc., are required as well.

Also, pushing the boss to the servers with a reset, and then opening the raid at the same time for EU and US would not be such a big issue, I guess. You could lock it behind a quest that only becomes accessible at a certain time.

Honestly I wish they would release an occasional 1-3 boss mini raid, one that a group could knock out in an hour or two.

They used to do this up until SL. Even BfA had the Crucible of Storms. But as an aside, a competent group can clear a ‘traditional’ raid like Amirdrassil in an hour or two. Of course that’s not during progression, but if every boss is brought down in a single pull it’s still possible.

I kinda miss these, but I feel like the Crucible of Storms flop soured everyone to them forever.

instead of adding things to the game for people to watch they should spend their time adding things to the game for everyone to play. It should also just be on the normal servers.

Small 1-3 boss raid released later? Why not.

It only available on the tournament realm to be an esport race for 3 guilds? I mean does it even need said how stupid this would be?

CoS was just tuned stupid hard.

They could…not do that.

Until something like crucible comes out and crushes hopes and dreams.

They could, if they learned the right lessons from it.

… what are we thinking the chances of that are?

If Blizzard doesn’t seem to have the resources to fix all the current problem, how would they manage to add new content.

Since we are talking about Blizzard, about 0.000001%.

I miss having smaller raids with only 1 - 3 bosses. Raids like:

  • Onyxia’s Lair
  • Gruul’s Lair
  • Vault of Archavon
  • Eye of Eternity
  • Baradin Hold

Vault of Archavon and Baradin’s Hold style raids have been replaced by world bosses starting in MoP.

They could leave it hard for exactly that weekend then be up front and say “Even if nobody kills it by X date we’re nerfing it”. Transparent schedule, guilds who wanna go for glory can do so and everyone else knows they’re not going to have to wait for them to beat it.

I actually like this idea.

I like the whole idea.

And, honestly, I think you should be able to transfer to this realm, but only so that your transmog comes over.

It’ll be a “Raid of Champions”, and by that, the gear will be pre-set. Simply, each class has an assortment of gear, gems, enchants upon which to build their characters. No farming, no raiding the AH, no going through extreme measures in resource, money, or time to gear the characters. Everyone starts on a level playing field from this point.

It also lets teams try killing the boss with 20 DKs or other absurd party combos.

I never had a problem with teams cheesing mechanics and what not for things like this, just as long as everyone can sample the cheese plate equally at the start.

But, let the folks bring over their transmog, cuz, why not.

And, that’s it. Separate realm, hopefully large enough to take the surge of everyone trying to log in. It’s instanced, so shouldn’t be too bad.

The let the games begin!

After the boss is down, and a winner is crowned, then the boss will move over to the regular realms, with LFR, Reg, Heroic, and Mythic modes, but you’ll have to use your normal toons. It will drop a cosmetic, or a cosmetic currency (kill it 5 times or something). Like a mount or something.

And that’s it.

When Green Fire came out, I discovered I didn’t have the patience to try and suss the boss out on my own. I tried, but was only getting frustrated. I had a hard enough time beating it even knowing what to do.

The dark side of this is that likely the “WF” tier players/teams are incentivized to not “show their work”. They likely won’t be streaming their progress, because progress will be hard earned. Before, it’s mostly just execution. But now with a discovery phase, there’s motivation to keep it close to your vest.

That doesn’t mean folks won’t stream progress. The folks who aren’t “in the hunt” will do so, not doubt. But it is a downside.

The other issue is the inevitable cries of subterfuge as Party A accused Party B of getting intelligence and tips from Blizz insiders.

C’est la vie.

Still a good idea though.

Just… no. I’m completely against something like that. Why? The common peasants can wait a year for new content and get put off with some recycled Fated stuff - but the tiny elite with a handful of players gets brandnew stuff developed for them, just so they can have some more Twitch views? I’m sorry, I’ve always found some of Max’s takes kinda bad, but this one is especially weird.

If it was mini-raids for everybody, just like in Legion and BfA… that would be great and I’m sad that’s not a thing anymore.

I say let’s do it, but secretly tune it so it’s unkillable even with the best gear, then cackle the whole time.

Making impossible bosses is probably really easy.
