Hear me out, since this is the very first time in 8 failed years of trying for the mount that I did this.
I had all of my characters 50+ get their boxes daily. I have the maximum of 50 characters, but after the squish, only 32 of them can try for it. Some of them even had 15 boxes; the maximum you could farm for the two weeks.
Anyway, I swallowed down my anxiousness to open them and waited until I could open them all up at once. Was even going to have a few friends over to watch.
But now they’re all gone?!
Before I ask if this has always been a thing, I want to say that I VERY VIVIDLY remember on one character just last year had accidentally tucked a box away into their bank for me to discover it in the middle of the summer. Where I was like, “Oh. lol.” open I’m 100% sure this happened without a doubt in my mind.
So what, gives? Is this a first? Can someone confirm this is the first year for them disappearing on us after the event?
I just want to feel better after losing exactly 450 boxes before getting a chance to open them

You know I’m constantly shocked at what Blizz has support articles for, it’s almost ridiculous
Updated: 4 months ago
I don’t know when the article was created but it was up at least 4 months prior to the event so I’d say that’s fair warning.

Ooooooof! Wow that suuuuuuuucks!! I’m so sorry to hear that =(
Oooh, that’s so bad. Kind of like when I lost a ton of DMF hats. They ought to mail you the mount if it had been in there.
Imagine finding the Love Rocket inside one of the boxes but not emptying it for some reason only for it to disappear
I appreciate the condolences, but I guess it’s a lesson learned.
The last two years I had all 50 characters get all 15 boxes and I didn’t get the mount. This is nearly as disappointing as last year where it was the second year in a row where I had the best chance but didn’t get it.
Still, I clearly remember missing a box and finding it randomly in a toon’s bank nowhere near the event. It just makes me think this wasn’t always a thing, you know?
Anyway, I can guarantee this mistake will never be repeated. There’s always a shot next year…I just hope the cap at getting the box doesn’t go to level 60. I don’t feel like leveling all these characters by next year.
The hardest part about trying for it isn’t the extremely low drop rate, but the annual change at where you have to be to even have the chance to make the attempt.
Yeah I have 14 characters that were max lvl in BFA so 14 characters to do it on but I was lazy this year to do it everyday with every single one of my characters. I was too busy focusing on leveling my Mage and farming. Maybe next year.
You would not have gotten it anyway, seriously it’s one mount none of us should ever bother mass farming due to the ridiculously low drop rate. Imagine having a 3333 sided dice, now roll a 1. That’s what happens each time you open the box.
It’s so bad, this mount and Grumpus are the only things (aside from the Thanksgiving stuff because I am not American) that I am missing from all the events and since Grumpus is but ugly I could not really care less about that.
One thing Blizzard, just one thing from all the holiday events that I want and one additional thing I don’t. Rather than lowering the drop rate, how about you all update the events to have something new?
I had no idea. I couldn’t find information about having to open the box during the holiday…I lost out on about 30+ boxes. I saved them up to open at one time. This is response I received. Hopefully this will help others to not make the same mistake.
"I’ve read your ticket about Heart-shaped Boxes!
Most event-related items like these will disappear when the event is over, and this includes loot bags like the Boxes. While you can stash them up until the end of the event, this comes at a big risk - they’re really intended to be looted as soon as you acquire them.
For the AM servers, Love is In the Air ended at 8am PST on Monday morning, just as shown on the in-game calendar. Any boxes you have would’ve expired, and Customer Service won’t be able to restore them or generate any contents they might’ve had for you. For better or worse, they have to be opened during the event itself - that’s how our Dev crew wants those items to work.
If you’d like that changed, you can reach out to our Dev crew through the Suggestion button here in the in-game Help browser, or through a topic on the WoW forums, and ask them to make that change."
For any event, always check to see if it says “Requires Event Name” That’ll help you in the future to know which items get removed after the event is over.
Thanks
I will be sure to check

It’s helped me avoid some annoyance by knowing certain items would be gone after events are up. Much less of an impact than losing a ton of heart shaped boxes, yes, but knowing that things like holiday buff items would disappear is nice to know, so I can use them instead of saving them for later.
I bet this was the year you got it too.
It’s been like this for a very long time. Because the currency disappears, as well.
If one happened to be in their bank, it might’ve bugged out and the game didn’t read the bank when it was looking for things that need deleted.
But this is much older than 4 months. It happened to one of my friends who saved a couple boxes on an alt a few years ago.
Yeah I expect it with everything event related. It would be cool if instead of vanishing they were instead opened and the contents went to your mail.
What’s the point on hoarding these? Do their chances increase when opening all at once or out of holiday or something?
You probably remembered right, OP.
I remember holiday items in general would go beyond their expiration date. I got the Hallowed final achievement out of season as proof (back when items didn’t disappear). But when that got changed I have no idea.
I just opened the boxes in the dungeon so I could gloat if the mount dropped.

It clearly states, requires the love is in the air event.

It’s same as every event based currency. Once the event is over, the currency goes away. It’s been like this for as long as I can recall.
If the currency doesn’t go away, something has bugged out.
