I think Blizzard is ignoring a gold mine of value by not hiring a remote team of contractors to do QA. There are enough 25-50+ year old players who work in software development to some capacity who would probably gladly take 20-30 dollars an hour for part time/contract work as a side gig. Give them access to a debug console and legitimate test environment (not just PTR) so that they can attach useful information to bug reports.
It is probably difficult to hire gaming industry developers who also have intricate knowledge of your game specifically. However, there are a lot of people who have intricate knowledge of your game specifically who are capable of doing a thing that has value to you. Hell, if people will moderate reddit for free, they will probably QA your game for free.
