Blizzard can you scatter some empty houses around the next expansion landscape. At least in Classic we can RP in all the empty houses. In the last few expansions there have been no houses anywhere. Makes the world feel more lived in, instead of just a warzone
I got my expedition tent. They changed the CD and made it actually usuable. Works pretty good now.
Good to know, I will check it out
Its the something Expedition Tent. You should be able to get it on the AH
House squatting. Just what we need. Who would possibly object?
waves my bindle aggressively
You stay away from my flop!
You do have player housing. A castle in Draenor. And a hearthstone to take you right to it. What more do you want?
The main building, I forget what it was, actually had an empty office off to the side I use to use.
The ability to stick things on the walls and floors of the keep to make it mine and not just a carbon copy of everyone else’s.
It’s been a while since I played WoD but I thought you could put decorations and statues on the Garrison as you leveled it up…maybe I’m misremembering.
Never say never.
I felt like Valdrakken had quite a lot of cozy and empty areas, like the upstairs in the inn.
And there’s like a section of the city that’s full of mostly-empty chambers, I thought I saw while exploring.
DF is pretty scenic, which is cool.
“I hear ya, and really love this idea.”

The Garrison was never player housing. Here is a quote from Ion about player housing:
Player housing is something many of us would want ourselves. Putting together any package for an expansion is a mix of what thematically suits the expansion, what’s going to appeal to different types of players, but also what would be required to deliver that feature at that level players expect and deserve and what would we have to give up to make that happen.
Player housing is a big one. It’s one of those things to do right. It’s a big undertaking. If we were to do it, it’d probably have to span multiple expansions. It’s a large enough feature in terms of just the art.
Back in WoD, there were just two types of Garrisons – one for the Alliance and one for the Horde. A Blood Elf player who expected one with a Silvermoon architecture wouldn’t get one due to resource constraints. It’s very time-consuming and would cost us for example a raid tier.
The dream of player housing is still alive and it’s something we want to do, but it isn’t a thing we will be able to do in Dragonflight.
That bold part? That is Ion confirming that Garrisons were not player housing.
Every single gamer knows what player housing is. It is an evergreen place, that you can customize as you see fit, to fit whatever theme you want (within reason).
Imagine if Fallout 76, instead of allowing you to build your own place, gave you a prefabbed Vault with a few options, with the added kicker that it was only useful until level 10, or just the first few story missions.
Garrisons were not player housing, by any stretch of the meaning of the phrase.
Now, they COULD, if they wanted to, make the Garrison ever green. Make more Monuments for the content we have done. Allow us to move it to the Barrens if we wanted. Allow us to throw two of the same fish into the pond, and have them multiply as our own personal Stock Pond. Bake the Halfhill Farm into it. Mines as well. You could move your garrison into Outlands for example, and have an NPC mine Fel Iron Ore.
Give us Wall Mounts to hang our coveted weapons. Dummies to showcase our armor sets. That dismembered dragon head that pops in the capital every so often? Let us put that in our yards, like a warning sign ala Vlad Tepish in Castlevania.
This stuff isnt hard to do, alot of the tech already exists. And sure, it would cost a raid tier, but guess what? Plunderstorm cost a raid tier. Its why this next season is fated.
You asked!
A zero utility room with access in the Stormwind’s Mage Tower with a door and a window and:
- set of curtains in a style and color I choose that I can place over the window
- a tapestry in a style and color that I choose that I can place where I want on the walls
- a frame for my fave achievement in a style and color that I choose that I can place where I want on the wall
- rugs in a style and color that I choose that I can place where I want on the floor
- a bed in a style I choose that I can place where I want
- bed clothing in a style and color that I choose that I can place on the bed
- a wardrobe in a style I choose that I can place where I want and access my mog thru by clicking on it (but not be able to actually transmog)
- a nightstand in a style I choose that I can place where I want and a lamp in a style that I choose that I can place on it (and maybe a plant)
- a chest in a style I choose that I can place where I want that I can access my toys thru by clicking on it
- a weapons wall rack in a style I choose that I can place where I want and put three of my weapons on
- an armor stand in a style I choose that I can place where I want and put my favorite robe and hat on
- bookcases in a style I choose that I can place where I want and fill with books, scrolls, various accoutrements of my enchanting profession and souvenirs from my favorite dungeons and raids
That is what more I want! And I would be happy to trade that garrison in Draenor for it
(My draenei paladin, however, would like to keep her garrison and just change that back room in the main building into a bedroom with the same options as above. Yes, I know that not everything would fit but she is willing to make sacrifices, like the last three things on the list, for the good of the Alliance… and being near her snuggle bunny.)
Something realistic. It’s absurd to think my character portals to a planet in another dimension every night.
I’d be happy if we got our class halls in every expansion as an alternative with new quests and things to do for it. Dalaran has been moved at least once, it can be moved again!
I’m for player housing as well, but I’m not holding my breath that we’ll ever get it though.
If they had some kind of city like Dalaran, with a massive courtyard with all of the “homes” around it that we would instance into as we clicked on the doors or something like that, that would teleport to a location in the new expansion. We could chill outside in the courtyard area with everyone else, but also go into our homes to do minor things, RP with others, get away from it all if we wanted to. Courtyard area could have everything else most city hubs have like the AH and bank…although I doubt they would do this these days since each new expansion they want us in whatever that main hub is. Just spitballin’ here anyway.
A private room in our class halls would be perfect.
Or inns with restaurants, tables, chairs, beds, etc After bfa they seemed to abandon some basic civilization buildings.
I’ve thought this least objectionable and easiest to implement for awhile… it would be pretty cool.

It’s absurd to think my character portals to a planet in another dimension every night.
