DK was my main for a very long time, I have every elite set on it to-date except for seasons that I was deployed for. I just used to love Unholy and was disappointed that it became more and more pet reliant over the years. Hopefully 2H Frost will be ok.
DH is fun in short bursts, but I feel like it gets dull quick–at least for me. Honestly, if it wasnt for double jump and glide I probably wouldn’t even touch the class.
Rogue and Monk are weird for me though, they’re really fun but I could never really get into them for long-term play–presumably because I actually do enjoy some semblance of rich class lore.
Ret has been my main since some random Worgen told me, back in 2010 when I was not enjoying the Hunter I’d made that was derping around Darkshore, that “you should play a paladin because paladins can do everything”.
I promptly rolled this here paladin, and there’s been great times amongst the bad times, but this will always, always be my “main”.
I actually completely backed away from raiding because I started to feel like my class wasn’t in sync with me any more. But I don’t want to do “flavour of the month” despite running alts in all classes for the fun of it. Nearly a decade later, this is still my “main”. Blizzard can nerf mobility and nerf mount speed and it still won’t change my mind. I’l just have to be content with playing out in the world and hoping that, one day, Ret gets back to the design it had at its height.
I like off healing. On ptr at least I’m seeing WoG crits between 25-50% of my health. So thats encouraging! I’m retired from pvp so I think ret is in an OK place for pve. I dont see other 2h specs being so much better than ret that I’d abandon my history with ret.
I think there will be an element of skill with dps how you manage all the dps cooldowns, especially balancing that with WoG and other utility in dungeons. There’s a good chance of skilled rets standing out a LOT from the not so skilled.
I’m also looking forward to final verdict. Its a good looking animation that I’d miss if I wasn’t playing ret.
Genuinely curious, what is there to gear up for SL? Once the xpac is live, all your 120 gear would be irrelevant in a couple of quests, right? Am I missing something here?
I don’t hardcore raid, do mythic plus, nor pvp anymore so I’ll stick with the class since doing WQ, LFR, run old raids don’t require me to be top dps. I gave up on those stuff a long time ago since blizzard seems to really hate paladins.
Assuming everyone had the same damage I would still be dropping ret. They haven’t address any of the spec’s short comings and in fact made what is disliked about the class worse. They just added a bunch of button bloat as well. While the rogue class is adds back old strong abilities like slice and dice while managing button bloat blizzard adds ret passive as dead auras or adds 2 more 1 minute burst cooldowns giving us 2 minute, 1minutex2, 45 secondx2 cooldowns. On top of our rotation that is more bloated then other rotations.
The gear reset isn’t that harsh, so decent BfA gear will last quite well. Apparently this is the case even with the azerite effects not working off Azeroth.
Nothing and i mean NOTHING can make ret as bad in pve as it was in vanilla and TBC, so as long as they keep ret between a build style and powe level between Wotlk-Bfa, I’m happy.
As “bad” as shadowland ret is, go and play ret in classic and you’d come running back here and tell blizz “ thank you!”
I have leveled a rogue, warlock and DK in preparation for Shadowlands in case ret sucked. Unfortunately I don’t enjoy playing them at all…I’ll probably just end up quitting the game entirely due to covenants and spend my time playing something else that doesn’t require 30 hours of chores for me to complete week after week.
Maining pally since wotlk…swapped to ret in cata. None of the changes address our severe issues with mobility, survivability (esp against casters), or CD reliance. Plus the changes that do seem cool are fine in vacuum but do not play well together and create a ton of awkwardness due to GCD/ramp time.
Will be swapping to druid in SL if i play at all. At least I they are a viable hybrid that usually has multiple functional specs
They’re just completely out of touch. I expected some changes but the ones they just made are laughable and address none of the concerns talked about on any forum.
Ill play my hunter even tho I’m not happy bout the pet Rez issue. if I do play my Paladin as an alt ill only play it for the one aspect of the game its viable at these days…end game transmog
