Simplifying Gearing and the Vault

Everyone has their own ideas. Here are mine.

Vault: populated as it is now, by completing a dungeon/raid boss/delve, but you get to pick whatever piece you like from the raid boss/dungeon you completed. That’s it. No RNG. One piece, your choice, you’re done for the weekly vault. Run more stuff if you want more options at reset, same as normal. Options to get a socket or something would still be there as well.

Upgrading gear. Crests, valorstones, etc all gone. Whole system out the window.
Instead each week you earn a pull from the above New Vault, you earn a +3ilvl upgrade to any SLOT of your gear, good for the rest of the season.

Doesn’t matter if you get an upgrade 5 seconds later from your guild raid, or if there’s a tuning pass and your BIS becomes the WIS, because the slot itself is upgraded for the life of the season. You could upgrade the same slot 100 times, or every slot equally, whatever you like, but only one per week.

This incentivizes everyone to earn their vault however they like, eliminates RNG that NOBODY likes, and provides guaranteed (if slower) ‘permanent’ player power for the given season.

Just an idea. I want to do everything I can to eliminate wasted dev time on complex systems, increase player understanding and ability to grasp the game they’re playing (new or old players), and just keep people playing the game.

So people can earn loot from difficulties / bosses they haven’t killed?

No. Just what they’ve killed. Like it is now.

We didn’t need a vault before Shadowlands, and all folks have done since it was added was complain about what drops in it. Maybe we should get rid of it moving forward.

For most people, it just needs a more reliable form of Bad Luck Protection. Towards the end of the season, I could see adding your suggestion. If it’s like this the whole time, people will outgear the season in a matter of weeks, and complain that there’s nothing else to do.

  • The Vault displays a list of content that you did.
  • Select the Delve/Dungeon/Raid that you still need an item from (whether for upgrade or transmog.
  • Choose from Boss / Slot / Tier Set
  • Select the item from the list of items.

I’m putting every upgrade into Ring #2 slot!

YES PLEASE

If we could just get a vault re-roll, that would be enough.

There would be no point to rare loot then. No thanks.

Another bad idea. Now youd just spam +2s for the piece you need and then just upgrade it to BiS, completely removing the point of higher difficulty content.

But we could also get 5 off maximum gear (470 when the highest was 475 from mythic) off a 5 mask vision too. Only 7/8 & 8/8 myth went higher.

The best delve even with a treasure map does Hero track (and even then we won’t get enough currency playing that mode to upgrade it).

If we were to get rid of it gear potential should be higher in relevant content.

I really like the vault how it is. It’s really rewarding to login on a Tuesday and loot an item across all my characters, and when the characters are early in the gearing process you’re basically always getting an upgrade.

Really, the only time the vault sucks is when you’re targetting a specific item or you have brainrot and think you need BiS in every slot to play the game.

Before the vault we had the weekly Mythic+ chest, and before that we had raid or die.

I don’t think that would be a good idea.

Precisely. Like how it used to be. They added the vault as an extra carrot on a stick, and then lowered other gearing options, and steering us into end game content. Used to be, end game content held its own, and the gear was actually the reward.

Now it’s just M+ 10s or die…

End game dungeon loot has never held its own. It only became relevant with mythic+ and its always relied on an RNG weekly box since then.

I like the one that says “some pulp

If a few posts on forums are against it, it doesn’t mean it should be removed.

If you look at TBC, it did. You only ran heroics for the challenge, and a few items.

It’s ironic that Mythics brought back Key Attunements from TBC, but everyone flips out when they hear a gearing suggestion from the same expansion.

If we’re removing everything people complain about, blizz can just go ahead and pull the plug on the servers.

Gear from heroics in TBC wasn’t holding its own against raid gear.

Minus a couple of bugs (which do not affect me since I do not play M+) I love the game.

But you had a single path, and everyone was on it. You ran normals to get attuned for heroics (think keys for mythics), then you took that heroic gear and raided. Now it’s all over the place.

  • Start with a follower dungeon just to see it
  • Hop into some normals, and hate them
  • Go run delves instead for smoother gearing without playing with others
  • Take that gear and go to LFR and M+, and get wrecked cause you thought gear was the secret
  • Then go raid, but still run M+ for better gear
  • Then outgear the raid and go back to M+ and complain more cause 13s are rougher than 12s

I think I know which was was far smoother for me… and I played it before it was a “Classic” resale.

That’s all very subjective. Nothing says someone has to play that way or have that experience. If you want to do a straight line from normal to raid, nothing is stopping you.
