Simple isn't better

Evoker prompts a “This is an advanced class” warning on creation, and yet this design notes say that Dev is one of the simpler casters in the game. I’m sorry but evokers level of simple is extremely boring with Hero talents very little change to them.

The talent tree is incredible boring, Dev needs some more life put into it, not being used as an example of what to aim for… it’s so damn boring.

Not just dev is getting pruned. All of them.

They didnt get pruned lol, there is literally NOTHING to prune

Simple is absolutely better for 90% of casuals who want to play wow but can’t because it’s too complex for them. This is the wave and it had to happen.

Simplicity can still feel fun. People have fun playing pong. They just have to do it right. The fun of the game imo is tons of people in the game actively playing wow. Not 10% of the sweatiest try hard players sticking to the game because it’s all they know. I want the game to flourish and be approachable to people again.

Making the game more approachable is fine, but a lot of what they’re taking away isn’t going to make the game better, it’s taking away skill expression and skill ceiling for a lot of specs.

Removing spirit bloom in favour of emerald blossoms was an absolutely terrible decision.

Removing the ability to lifebind multiple people also takes away a lot healing potential and skill expression.

That’s totally fine to have targeted criticisms like you just wrote out here. But a lot of what I’ve been seeing is broad strokes “THIS IS TERRIBLE” dooming. This had to happen like it or not. Legion was infamously criticized for the pruning it did. Yet it is known as one of the best expansions WoW ever had.

It’s still the alpha. Just give actual feedback instead of dooming to the devs in general. They are going forward with this like it or not. We the players just have to tell them what works and what is really bad.

I get dooming does no good, but it’s a pretty massive change out of left field and some specs like resto sham just had their utility kit nuked. So even if they’ll be fine, it’s pretty jarring.

The removal of spirit bloom leaves Chrono warden feeling extremely empty. Feels like it’s just a Chrono flame spam bot now and losing an empower lessens most of the talents in that hero tree, specifically afterimage.

With flameshaper, verdant embrace is the new engulf on the healing side, but you need to use verdant embrace for call of ysera before you dream breath so your alternative becomes blossoms, which I can’t stress enough how terrible that is.

The changes overall need to come with a bigger overhaul to the spec tree to fill losing an empower.

Do we know if they left ysera the same? I know they were trying to kill the interactions and if they just made it so taking the talent is all you need that’s one less thing to worry about.

The talent trees up on wowhead for alpha seem to have it the same.

Keep in mind we’re still missing the apex talents.

Remove Emerald Blossom or even Lifebind BUT let us keep Spiritbloom!!!

Dev is simple to play, but much harder to play well. Especially flameshaper, which isn’t mainly disintegrate spam like scalecommander.

I absolutely agree with this.

A really good place for most classes to be would for the class to be extremely accessible and fun to play at entry level, with people feeling relatively competetive even when playing simply, but also with small flexes that people can min-max with a high skill-cap.

If there are small subtle ways to optimise a class to squeeze more out of it and enable people to show their skill, yet the class appears simple and accessible to casuals, then bliz has got a class into a very strong spot.

The difficulty of Evoker isn’t the spells, but more the positioning so you can fire them all off.

Just sayin is pong as big a game as wow?
Anyway though a casual player can play whatever if they legit arent doing m+ or raiding.
The difficulty of something would never matter to any casual player ever.
Go doo a normal dungeon, they are soo easy that imo it hurts the game.

No casual player will ever need too even press more then 1 button to do casual junk in wow. Classes dont need to be designed for casuals since they wont even be interactiang with most of their kit too do the content they enjoy.

Soo the spell design is causing you too position in a certain way.

Aka the spells are the difficulty of evoker.

No, and absolutely not.

It didn’t ‘have to happen’, this endless chase for more ‘casuals’ has never yielded the more players. Players want depth, else they get bored quick and leave. Simplifying the game into a 1 button snooze-fest will kill WoW faster than any sweaty 10% try hards.

And when has blizz every listened to the players? The only they’ll listen to is people stopping their subs. The rest is just noise.

But conversely, yes absolutely yes.

It would be nice if there was a dedicated Evoker dev who chimed in somewhere in an interview, or here, ever. If such a thing exists currently.
