"Silenced" For 7 Days From Players Abusing the Report Function

GMs are part of Customer Support and they’re referred to as such. It’s that way in all of their support articles, and even in their own responses they give you in tickets. They don’t call themselves “Customer Service.” We’re only adding to the confusion problem by using that “Service” term here, because that’s contradictory to what Blizz CS calls themselves.

Anyways, the name of the forum is why people come here and just about everyone knows it. Either Perl or Mirasol or someone else has suggested “Information Desk” or something of the like for the name of the forum. Maybe one day this forum name will actually be changed to eliminate the contradiction in labels.

If people would just read the little post at the top of this forum they would see what this forum is about and not about! It clearly explains this forum.

People assume what people assume and trying to talk them out of their preconceived notions is difficult (and sometimes upsetting).

The best you can hope for is that they accept the facts when they’re presented.

I don’t come to the CS forum much anymore once I found out its not what I thought it was. I do think this forum should be renamed to something else like “Player to Player Help” or something like that. I’m sorry you got silenced and I hope it gets resolved quickly and never happens again to you.

Well, you are correct - those were the reported lines, Mucifur.

On the 14th - at one point it appears you did this several times within a very short period of time. This was upheld as spammy.

As others have mentioned, you also want to be very mindful of what channels you put such things in.

I think this is a great idea.

Along with that I think that there should be some reality about the “player to player” aspect of this forum. The sticky makes it seem like we are all on the same footing, equal and on an even playing field. Just having a discussion about support issues. But there’s clearly different “tiers” of players here.

I’m not talking about different colored text people. There’s a loosely organized group that are something like volunteers and openly friendly with SFAs. An SFA described them to me as “regulars.” They are on a different level. I’m not alleging some conspiracy, it probably developed over many years-- but its true. Some of those regulars can be very helpful and clearly put the time in to do good. And some are authoritarian and hold forth as having the final say on on matters, even when things are not black and white. As far as I can tell this is permitted or even sanctioned by the SFAs who have every right to do so.

The problem is that it is jarring and raises tensions for people who come in here already upset but unaware of the forum culture. The regulars are going to come out on top in the clash over whose voice matters, not the first timers.

So, if this is a forum that exists to outsource CS to player volunteers with SFA oversight, just make it that. Let it be out in the open and official. I really think it would calm some situations down.

That’s definitely something that shouldn’t be happening. The Lounge (or off-topic-thread) is not supposed to be a place to drag other thread drama into. It’s supposed to be about TimBits, coffee and recipes…okay, not exactly that stuff, but just general banter and comradery amongst players (not just regulars, but everyone who feels inclined to hang out there). The lounge is a place just to, well, lounge around. Nothing more.

Most drama/inappropriate chatter there gets purged as it’s not the right place for it.

If you do see any posts the violate the rules, feel free to report them like any other inappropriate post.

Or, and hear me out… sometimes people come in here with a chip on their shoulder, with not only incorrect assumptions, but flat out inaccuracies and in some cases lies, spreading it as gospel. And when they are shown how incorrect they are and double down after correct information is given, that is generally when the blunt answers begin to show up without the sugarcoating. Sometimes laying it out as cold factual information is what is required.

Required to do what? End the conversation? Mark it as resolved? If that’s necessary, give someone the transparent authority to do it.

Starting up to say - come on guys. This thread didn’t need this hijack. This poor person created this thread for their issue, not for it to veer off into something better off in it’s own thread. It’s not really something meant to be here in CS but it really doesn’t need to be overtaking the OP’s thread.

I will also tack on - feedback of any kind does not belong on CS. It has it’s own particular avenues. General Discussion or through the in-game suggestion and feedback interface. I’m not saying that to handwave anything, but just that no staff comes here to collect said feedback. Our SFAs are here to moderate and provide insight and advice, but they don’t pass along feedback. I want to make sure folks’ voices are being heard if they want to provide feedback or thoughts constructively.

I’m sorry, but where was anything ever linked for people to pile in again? And weren’t you the one who thinks there is a Discord server that exists to weaponize flags and reports? (I will honestly apologize if that wasn’t you. That accusation came out around the last time you were over here jumping in threads.)

While yes, we may vent loosely there or chide one another as to it being time to step back before we put our own posting privileges on the line, but that is also so as to try and not bring that frustration out in threads and on the players themselves. But I’ve never seen a thread linked there, or even anything said that even gives a hint to who or what folks are talking about.

As well you know, of course. You were jumping threads and hopped in where some folks were throwing in the towel in the back and forth with you the last time you went cutting through here. At no point was your name or a thread linked. And you were still treated cordially in the CS off-topic thread no matter how heated conversation might have gotten outside of there.
