Showing some appreciation

Just as the title says, I wanted to extend my appreciation for the return of talent trees and for the new UI.

I get it, depending on your views and experience, you may have already stopped reading by now. For those that have stuck around I’m curious to know what is the thing you enjoy the most about the prepatch?

For myself, it was the new talent trees. Shocker, I know. While I did feel punished when I could not get all of the abilities I initially thought I wanted, after giving the training dummies a try, I realized I didn’t need them… seriously. The decrease in the number of abilities yet somehow the balance of steady output yields a relaxing and enjoyable gameplay. Or, the challenge that a crap build brings. Time to return to trial and error folks!

I dunno why the UI is getting hate, aside from the bugs with the stance bar and such and the lack of a “revert to classic layout” (even if offered within the bounds of the new UI mechanics) option. If you can take the few minutes to sit down and plan it out (as you likely did with your add-on anyway sips tea) it is very slick. In my opinion of course. You make it what you want. There’s a great thread going about the changes that the UI needs which I highly agree with but aside from that, I’ve been enjoying it.

I digress. What is your favorite change/feature?

Indeed. I absolutely love the strategic thinking behind this rpg game, and I love being faced with new choices. Blizz did a great job with this.

Yes it took me 20 mins to set up and it’s really smooth. I love the new casting bar as well. Probably my favorite thing right there. I also love the new artwork about the pre-patch.

i like the talent trees. i am not big on the ‘choose this or that’ in the same talent node though - the whole point of a tree is the opposite. having a base tree and a spec tree is also very nice.

I do see where the octagon ‘nodes’ can be kind of an annoyance, but I think it really delves into the direction you want your character to go with the skills offered to you.
My opinion is: I like that Blizzard has made it so that I have to make more choices. Strategy is why I play games like this ya know?

This is the first time i’ve seen this but I totally agree. Maybe if it was just made like Row X was “CHOOSE ONE” it would feel better. That’s basically what it is anyway from what I have seen- Halo vs Divine Star(old talents on the same row)

Yeah honestly I agree. It feels weird when you have to overthink the usage of the skill and things like that.

I do like the talent trees and the new UI myself. While I may have more than my fair share of gripes with the game, I’m not above giving credit where it’s due.

I’m liking the new UI interface. It reduces my need for ELVUI, thus taking less memory to run the game.

The talent trees… Not so much. Too much choice after years of simplicity is a big shock to the old noggin. I want to play around with it, but there are so many choices that I don’t know what will work with what without spending hours in research and theory-crafting. I want to just jump into the game and have fun, not take Science/Math classes again.

It takes getting used to I know know a square box=active ability and the circle =passive…but there are a whole lot of circles and not a lot of squares.

I did find the talents to be a bit passive heavy too. That was unexpected.

I also agree that this was all a bit too much at once. My GM said it best, “Should have released JUST the UI, or, JUST the talents. Not both simultaneously.”

I have to believe that if these two major changes were staggered, the “shock” wouldn’t be as intense.

I think that encompasses the whole issue on the Forums right now
