Showing Character vs Account Achievements

None of my characters have the “show character achievements to others” option checked. I don’t think any ever have.

Despite that, I notice several places where the UI is displaying character achievement score vs account achievement score. For example, the guild roster has a column for achievement points, and that shows character vs. account. These very forums appear to show character score vs account score (at least for me, although there was a time many months ago when they showed account score.)

The online armory shows a confusing mix where the score is character specific but the all the category scores and the actual list of achievements is for the account. It makes the page look like Blizzard doesn’t know basic math because the sum doesn’t match the parts.

My question is, is any of this due to factors I have control over? Are there other settings I don’t know about I can correct to clean this up? Is there a bug for my account I should submit a ticket for? What I’d like to see happen is the same account score showed everywhere for all my characters (which has the great benefit of not making me feel like I need to repeat achievements on my current main because I’ve switched mains over the years.)

Thanks for any tips.

It’s the same for everyone. I have no idea why they just display character achievement points in guild roster and on the forums etc. as it demotivates from collecting achievements and even causes some people to become obsessed with collecting achievements on just one character.

If they really sorted it out I’m sure more people would become achievement hunters but in the end it’s up to blizzard.

Part of it is for anonymity of alts. If all toons from one account have the same point total, you can easily see whose alts are whose. Which some people object to.

As for the motivational aspects /shrug. Honestly nobody cares how many achievement points you have except you. I’m not sure trying to force competitiveness over it does anybody any good.

Thanks guys. I was hoping it was something I could fix but I guess not.

I get the desire for an anonymity option, which is what I thought the existing option is for. It’s weird that that it seems to activate in part whether you check the option or not though.

Motivational aspect will of course vary by player. But if truly no one cared, there wouldn’t be a score and it wouldn’t be displayed in multiple places. If Blizzard is going to display scores, I think it’s a reasonable ask that those scores respect the player’s preference in the per-character vs account option.

I’ve been replying, and making threads on this issue since it came up. When I get bored in WoW, I always played an arpg, or achievement hunted. I really want to catch up on some achievements, but I find joy in having my armory show my correct account wide points, not character specific.

Agreed, Blizzard PLEASE make it an option to show account-wide achievements in-game and on the armory. There are so many achievement hunters and collectors out there that would be highly more motivated to continue a sub if this was an option.

We want to see and show off ALL of our achievements no matter what character we are on and many of us have changed up our mains over the years so the achievement points are not accurately showing our accomplishments. Forcing players to redo everything they have done over the past 15 years on a single character ruins the alt play and just induces player burnout.

Please, can we get a response on this? Is there an update in the works for a future patch?

And for all of those against account wide achievements from being displayed:

  1. First off - from what I’m seeing most of them have never really changed their main so this doesn’t even affect them… unless they are just petty that others might actually have more total achievement points.

  2. Second, there could be a toggle option for those who wish to be kept separate from their other characters.

  3. And as for the “but its an RPG” argument… come on, really? That’s thrown out the window as soon as you see a lvl 20 on Ashes of Alar. There are many other examples that show a player is displaying rewards that were earned on another character. And I highly doubt the majority would want those features taken away.

I thinks its wonderful how the game has evolved over the years and that wow classic is now an option for those that are not fans of the changes in retail. How could displaying account wide achievements possibly be a negative thing, especially if the player has the option to opt out?

That checkbox already exists in the Interface menu, and works as advertised when checked.

It’s the unchecked part that’s wonky. You’ll see the account achievement score on your own in-game UI, but the score in other places will be the character score vs. the account score.

I’m not sure how many if any players actually ever do go back and repeat all the achievements on a new main. What ends up happening for me is I end up feeling like playing any of my other characters is a waste because “they don’t count”, which is a bummer for personal enjoyment, and also one more contributor to the role imbalance because my historical main is dps only even though I have tank & healer alts.

Was this who question resolved? That being displaying character vs account achievements?

I was wondering which of my PVP toons have made what rank and in what season. I am sure it could be sorted that way, but have yet to see anyone online show a way. The operative phrase being “yet to see”, and perhaps it is available.

Anyone?

I think I checked the box on a few toons, but sometimes I would rather have a check box to show account score in guild. I rolled a new main this year as well an the score is very low.

Not too sure if this resolves your issue, but if you look up the achievement you have questions about in game under your achievements tab, you can hover over the points (top right corner), and it will tell you which toon earned the achievement.

I’m right there with you and it’s super frustrating.

My main issue is that my main is missing some achievements that I picked up on my alts, and I have no idea what they are. Total is at 24090, my main is at 21270.

I’m not sure where those other 2820 pts are.

I would try different classes if things like rep, achievements, old vanilla titles, etc carried over.

see i have all 17 of my char open so i can see the achievements right now 3 of them showing account total
next 4 are showing in the 20k but not the same number (one of them is a lvl 20 alt never seen some of the achievement it says it has but other down the list has been a main char for the past 4 xpack and showing less (the main char is showing i havent down any boss in the raid as achievements but when looking on the char page show 6/8 prog) blizzard cant even show whats right in there armor page
the armor page dont give a opt to say char vs acc check as well blizzard again FAILED EVERYONE
