"Show you really mean it and delete your account."

One interesting argument has been presented that unsubscribing doesn’t make enough of a statement because you could just resubscribe later. The implication that deleting an account provides more permanent closure to giving Blizzard money is inherently flawed, because deleting your account does not prevent you from ever returning to the game. If you assume everyone is guaranteed to return after they unsub, why don’t you assume they’d eventually do the same after rage-deleting their account?

There is no difference in the amount of money Blizzard gets from you if you unsubscribe as opposed to having your account deleted in full. They get $0 from now on, unless you come back. In both cases, you absolutely could return to the game whenever you wished; either in the form of a new subscription or a completely new account. Guess which option gives Blizzard more money in the long run?

If you delete your account and then return later, you must repurchase all the games and rebuild all your characters. The chances of someone returning are much less.

I agree. This is more directed at those clearly goading people into doing exactly that, and it’ll cost them more in the long run.

But the thing is no one is really going to do it maybe some might but they will just be back on a new account this is GD where everyone says they will quit but come right back.

You could argue that not deleting your account and refusing to give Blizzard your ID is more of a statement.

Again, you miss the actual point.

Mass deletions of accounts means more spotlight on a serious issue than mass players letting subscriptions run out.

Everyone already knows that people who delete their accounts could come back, but they would need to rebuy everything, directly reinforcing Blizzard and their position. Whereas renewing a sub is no different in meaning than it is for those who cancel/pause subscriptions in between content drops.

I’ll respond with a direct quote from above, since I’ve responded to you regarding this issue in other threads.

You want people to delete their accounts en masse, and you know full well that it’s not because you think it’ll make a meaningful statement.

Actually again, you’re wrong.
I don’t want anyone to delete their accounts.
I want people to be mature, reasonable human beings who look at the bigger picture instead of getting emotional and reacting without understand something called context.

I would much rather players kept their accounts, wrote their congressmen and went directly to Blizzard.

But since people were going on and on about quitting, I challenged them to prove it.

Well then I apologize, because that’s a reasonable approach and I completely agree.

Those who delete their accounts would be doing so to make a point to Blizzard, not you. They don’t owe you any proof.

True.
Which is also why I have been calling out people who come to the forums, to tell random people, that they are leaving. Why bother doing that unless you want to make a scene to others?

And that’s fair enough but even if some people do prove it, it doesn’t mean their point is any more or less valid. They could show you their “proof” and then immediately log on to their other account, now feeling self-righteous and smug about it.

My only point is that asking for “proof” is meaningless, because it’s literally not possible to know for sure how many people are being serious whether they “prove” it or not. Chances are, a lot of people quitting will not have made a public forum post about it.

How so? It seems stupid to me to delete an account, it sends a message that you don’t even care if they reverse course because you are never coming back anyway. Also if people delete their Battlenet accounts then don’t they also lose stuff like Star Craft, Warcraft III, Diablo III that they already paid for in full.

Actually, I didn’t realize until like 20 minutes ago that this could be happening. Never came to mind when I started challenging people before lol

I mean, I’m not disagreeing that deleting an account makes some sort statement. I just don’t think it matters how much they publicize the fact here of all places.

I know at least some people have more than account. I don’t have any data whatsoever to make any assumptions about how many, but it’s the whole reason I think posting proof on these forums is a waste of time. If people want to delete their accounts, go for it. Blizzard will notice, sure. If they want to “prove” it here to make their point, it just doesn’t mean anything.

Yeah, I definitely didn’t think about this before lol

Hmm let me think about it . . .

Hard No. It may not be much in the grand scheme of things, but I kinda have a lot of stuff here and if my account was ever deleted I would never rejoin. I’ve got RL dollars tied to some of my stuff, you think I’m paying twice? I’d be out of my mind!

A lame argument. I want Blizz to change, and me saying I’d never comes back removes any leverage I could have.

And all you had to do was think. Maybe next time. Think.

I agree, and pretty much went on to explain why throughout the rest of the post. I’ll admit not putting quotation marks around the word “interesting” probably didn’t help.

Sorry. Guess I should read more before I post. It’s on my list of flaws.

All good, not proofreading my own posts is pretty much right on top of my list.
