Should you leave or stay?

Now I see a lot of threads of people abandoning ship and encouraging others to do the same and people who are calling them out and these two fighting on the forums so I am going to give my thoughts on the whole thing.

We are not in a disagreement that WoW is not doing well right now …and I have to admit Shadowlands is probably beyond recovery. However this does not mean the game itself is also going to fail. Will the lawsuit hurt Blizzard a bit but very likely not beyond repair.

Think for a second, what if in the next x pack wow creates one of their best work since wrath, it has everything you wanted or at least most of it, will you stay with ffxiv/eso/NewWorld, or will you come back to Wow. If your answer is the latter than that means all the time money and effort you put into those accounts on those other games will be wasted.

There is already signs the next x pack will be decent 9.1.5 has been giving us a lot of the stuff we asked for for Shadowlands now people are going to say that this is part of a pattern but there is one thing that has changed …a lot of people have been fired from Blizzard due to the abuse scandal a lot of those people were in fact in charge of the sections of the game that people had the most criticism about, one could easily argue that the reason those sections of the game were bad is because the people in charge were more concerned about covering up their abuse than they were making good content. And yes Ion is still the head of Blizzard but I honestly think, despite his position, he is not has as much power, or is not as involved in the quality of the game as people make him out to be. As for the new people there is a bit of potential there, for example Jen Oneal lead the team who made the Tony Hawks Pro Skater remaster and the Diablo 2 remaster both of whom were widely praised. As for Mike Ybarra well he has actually played the game and still plays it so he has a first hand experience on what payers do or do not want because he is one of them.

So in conclusion I would wait until the next x pack comes out before you make your decision. If the next x pack is good then the pattern has been broken and very likely will be a new age for the game however if it is not then you will know the pattern will continue, Blizzard has not learned its lesson, and you can safely leave the game without any regrets.

unfortunately a lot of people said this about shadowlands too. “just wait one more! just one more and they’ll get it right!”

and here we are

You can always take a break from the game and come back later. You don’t have to quit cold turkey with the intent never to come back.

I actually covered that.

Thats what I have been doing but I have been playing some other genre games like RTS or single player RPGs the kind of games you can pick up and drop easily.

Lol no it doesnt. You pay for enjoyment. If you enjoy your time and it entertained you, it’s not a waste. Thats like saying game progress is tangible.

Depends on the part of the game you enjoy if you just like end game raiding for example then getting to max level getting geared and all that is seen as a necessary chore rather than enjoyment. If you been playing WoW up to the current content they it is a lot easier to do that on that char then you are a level 1 on a fresh account in another game with likely a much different play style and mechanics.

No, that time, money and effort will not have been wasted.

Because I will have gotten all that entertainment from them. And I will still have them there waiting to play when I want, like when I get bored of WoW or there is a content drought. And anyways, it will be time, money and effort that I saved by not playing WoW for the same length of time so it will even out.

So you think it is a better investment of time, money and effort to keep playing something not being enjoyed on the off chance it might be better in a year or so time than to stop now and check back later?

Or better:

Leave now, invest that time, money and effort in more enjoyable pursuits, video games or other, and check out the next expansion when it goes up on PTR for free thru streamers, reviews, discussion like here, ect.

Do no regret over an extra year of time, money and effort invested in a game not enjoyed.

Oh yes because game journalists ALWAYS give accurate representation of a game.

Is OP Ion Hazzikostas? “Sub to the game even if you don’t enjoy it” is super questionable logic.

9.1.5 if definitely a decent start, but we need a lot more than that before we can actually move towards “they’ve learnt their lesson”. If 9.2 and 9.2.5 are both following the same 9.1.5 trend (actually listening to players wants and needs and not making needless additions/changes) then I would be very inclined to play 10.0.

If not though, I’ll probs just quit for good and move to another game (like new world). I’ve given them more thane enough chances really.

No but speaking of Ion.

Also.

I am in the same boat to be honest it is starting to look like the pattern may be broken however and I am willing to wait and see. I am not saying don’t leave if your not having fun …I am just saying is that MMOs are a big time and financial investment and make sure you are thinking in the long term before leaving one for good or joining another one.

Nope. When a game starts removing content that I’ve enjoyed for 17 years, that’s when I bail.

As another poster put it so succinctly, the trust is gone.

Many people already left…I mean to go play other games in the meantime. 9.2 and 10.0 will bring the honeymoon state back again. Not sure if they will be good tho.

Players above 35 are used to playing wow already, they will keep coming on and off. If the game sucks then the off period is longer.

Here is my response to that. I think Blizzard was blindsided by this as much as we were.

So what if it is easier?

Players aren’t quitting because the game is hard, but because it is no longer fun.

Good for you.

A lot of players have moved over to FF and/or New World and are enjoying themselves.

To each there own.

Smarter than trusting Blizzard.

Especially since you can actually see what is happening on-screen in the case of streamers and have multiple sources for reviews. And goodness knows, there are always lots of difference opinions here, Reddit, ect.

I get it, you want people to stick around for whatever reasons.

But it is senseless for someone to continue investing time, money and effort in a hobby that they no longer enjoy. Better to pack up and leave than have disappointment and bitterness ruin the good memories.

And again, they can always return if they wish. I did after seven years.

Why wAste money waiting for the good to come.

If you aren’t happy with this expansion don’t listen to this guy and quit until you are happy with the game.

Mmos and WoW in particular have this weird concept of “sticking it out” during dry patches. It’s completely ok and makes financial sense to stop paying and playing for game that doesn’t bring you joy.

I collected every mount and transmog I wanted so I unsubbed. People who still want things and are farming for them have a reason to stay subbed. Those who don’t care for it or have everything they want just unsubbed.

10.0 announcement could make people resub to “get ready” for the next expansions but that’s really it. For myself if the warglaives where announced to be used by other classes or in a new class then I would def resub just to collect all those appearances in shadowlands on my demon hunter before it goes live. If a new class comes out with a non mail armor type that I’m interested in is prob resub to collect those appearances as well.

But if the next expac is the same no new classes, no loosened restrictions on weapons, mogs, or new class/race combos that I would want to play then i won’t resub during the announcement or when 10.0 is released. As we have already learned that even when they don’t add new stuff they cannot balance what we haves given that they had 4 years to do so.

I’m not good with words so here goes. It took some time off, no anncoument. One big reason was a wonky schedule. Things are better now, with recharged batteries and getting caught up.

The big driving factor will honestly be blizzard… 9.2 has to be good. No if ands or buts.

It’s not wasted time or money if you are entertained while you are playing those other games.

It took me a while to finally quit playing. This was because of my guild. I like playing with them.

Once I quit, I remembered I would quit games as I started to dislike them.

I think the playerbase needs to remember this part. It really is ok to quit. If you want to stay in touch with you guild then just get everyone on board with discord to keep in touch.

The sunk cost fallacy is in everything in life. You lose time of your life doing everything. It’s ok to move on and have those sunken costs just fade away. That is life.

I would argue it’s healthier to move on rather than staying if you’re not enjoying yourself.

Many people have said it on the forums and it’s true from my experience.

I’ll give a good example: my buddies and I have played dota 2 for years. After some long period of time playing every night, we just fade away to play something else. We don’t even play the same games most of the time.

We keep in touch through discord or Facebook messenger.

We eventually get back into dota and have a good time for quite a while.

Over the long term, we are enjoying ourselves rather than being miserable tying ourselves to dota

I guess the real reason why I keep giving this game a chance is because its familar to me you know the saying “its easier dealing with the devil you know other than dealing with the devil you dont” or something like that…I am playing animal crossing and I am playing everquest II…and toontown rewritten…just some other games ,my sub runs out in december…we will see I am getting older and dont have the stamina in my hands and my shoulder start to hurt if I play for a long time…I just 9.1.5 to come out…I have a strange feeling that they are going to merge servers again…

That’s okay. WoW is just a game, and it’s okay to invest time in it while you enjoy it, and divest when you don’t. The only thing that matters about WoW is whether you’re having fun or not, imo.

Don’t wait for anything unless you’re enjoying that time spent waiting. Do not let FOMO dictate your actions and control your life
