Should WoW reward neckbearding?

This is something I’ve seen opposing views on.

  • Some players think they should be rewarded for neckbearding (i.e. more time spent in game = more rewards). A good example of this will be having uncapped valor in a season where more time spent = further progression.
  • other players think the opposite where they want the ability to raid log and still be at the forefront of gear progression without falling “behind”.

What does WoW GD think on this?

well, palyers have been pretty vocal about “Artificial gating” - which you have as the option #2.

as such, I choose option #1: reward effort.

I mean if someone wants to play till their eyes bleed, more power to them, give them the loot.

People are so stingy with inviting people anyway. Might as well let people play when they want and get the valor when they have time.

I know doing dungeons in the earlier season feels bad because you waste so much potential valor.

I don’t raid though. But usually it’s raiders that have problems with this stuff. I am starting to think they should just artificially limit people’s item level at the start of the season when raiding to avoid this unless it’s raid gear.

not good to reward addiction imo.

This is fair. But keep in mind how much people complained about Legion artifact power and the azerite neckpiece. Even though borrowed power systems is a whole separate issue, those systems basically rewarded neckbearding.

That was more of an issue with the systems, not how people interacted with them.

Well if all you do is raid log then you should objectively be worse progression wise than someone else farming gear.

Don’t really see what’s wrong with that. In addition, WoW will probably still have a weekly vault/chest system so odds are the highest loot will still be possible from doing the bare minimum.

All the gear eventually becomes obsolete anyway so if people want to go ham one patch for gear then whatever.

I propose a weekly buff that gives you +1% damage, healing, mana, and health for every hour you actively play, even if you’re just running around on your mount or RPing.

That’s the blood and bones of mmorpgs,

Play more, get more.

It was great when I was a young lad without a job 15 years ago

Now I’m grown and don’t get more than 5/6 hours a week to play and I still think those who play more should get more

Timegating gating sucks

I disagree. Drug dealers should have loyalty programs. Black & Mild’s entire business model is built around rewarding addiction. When you buy Taco Bell, you get points to get free Taco Bell. Why do you think Casino Gamblers get complimentary lobster buffets and penthouse stays in the hotel where they gamble?

Rewarding addiction is the American Way.

It’s not a bad idea as sad as that is from a business standpoint.

But I don’t think they need to result in cut through business practices when they usually just cut throats

I’m hooked on Kit Kat ice cream. Dollar Generals fault

No, those were the good old days. Today, competition in the drug world is ended by different pharmaceutical companies agreeing upon exactly how much to gouge the people who rely on their product.
