Should trinkets get reduced from 2 to 1?

As we know, trinkets are a bit of a special case when it comes to gear because while some are stat sticks, others provide unique abilities and effects. This in a bubble is fine, but history has shown that they contribute to some of the stranger differences in how classes perform.

So the question I want to pose is this: would it be worth it to reduce the number of trinkets players can equip from 2 to 1?

The downside I see is that doing this would probably funnel players towards specific trinkets since the slot suddenly becomes more valuable. I’m sure it would also upset anyone that farmed their two BiS trinkets (though this can be alleviated by waiting until a new expansion launches to do it).

On the positives, it means one less factor messing with balancing (because the devs could sim and balance around one trinket effect instead of two). It would also make gearing between specs a little easier. Even between specs that don’t have the same stat priorities or main stat, you’d need to farm only one trinket for an offspec set instead of two.

What do you guys think? Do you think it would be feasible and beneficial, or should we just keep equipment as is?

Nah. Everybody has two arms, two legs, two hands and two pockets.

Uhm… MAYBE pockets. Where do we even keep our trinkets anyway? >_>

But you get the idea.

Yeah, I’d be in favor of this. Who needs 2 slots for trinkets.

By the same token, one ring would be plenty, too …

Look what you did OP.

The next thing is one weapon slot.

Hunters should have to craft their own ammo again

I actually like having two trinkets. But that’s just me.

Well, two weapon slots makes sense for dual-wield vs. two-hand styles. But they dropped my “stat stick” slot way back in MoP, so paring rings and trinkets down would follow that trend, I suppose.

Why isn’t this game more like CoD??

Personally, one of the things I have always liked about WoW compared to other rpg-ish games was how many gear slots it has to fill.

It bums me out when an rpg will give me some meager number of gear slots to fill. Sure, it makes for an easier time for balance and developing but I really like having a lot of pieces to play with.

So, I really wouldn’t want blizzard to take away a gear slot. They did that with relics and such years ago and it made me a little sad.

Because CoD is a fish and WoW is an expression.

We don’t need fishy expressions cmon.

I’m so old, all I see in this acronym is Crescendo of Doom …

How about just one glove?

Actually that was my thought as soon as I read the OP. Why should I have to try and grind out two weapons on my rogue and you only have to grind out one? It is a stat stick.

Well, the reason I focused on trinkets is because Blizzard has gone in on making trinkets unique procs or abilities/cooldowns. I think they affect output much more than your average “stat stick” (barring freak occurrences like Neltharax). In doing so, you’re adding extra variables to the mix when trying to tune and balance.

Only if I can get more ring slots, I’ve got 8 more fingers

No.

I miss Legion’s everything-in-a-two handed-weapon-set era.

That was pretty good, yeah

I’d happily ditch a trinket slot in favour of a class based slot. Librams for paladins, quivers for hunters etc.

If you only want to have one trinket, then you have that option to do so now. Why is it that when someone doesn’t like something, the only proposal that they seem to come up with is a complete overall of the existing system?
