Can you identify the flaw in your logic?
When I got my notification I was shocked quite honestly. I made a thread that many people enjoyed and thought was very well written and funny and it got straight up nuked from orbit no warnings or nothing. Went to bed with a ton of likes and woke up the next morning sharing breakfast with General Zod tumbling through space.
Well, theyâd have to start the clock now and not implement it until 2-5 years from now because I know of many people who had an undeserved vacation in the past 2-5 years because of flagging and lack of real thought by moderators on whether or not the flagging was deserved.
Excuse me while I make another trip to the toilet to vomt.
The absolute state of woke snowflakes right now, wow you guys are on edge. Imagine calling someone a commie for (key word) ârecommendingâ they take a free speech approach to moderation. I hope your iq is seriously higher than this buddy.
As someone with over 25 years of forum moderation experience, I can say âno.â
Itâs bad enough with the current flag system that its basically weaponized. It was confirmed that you can use multibox characters to mass flag someone and get them banned. The way the current system works, if âenoughâ people flag something, you will get infracted. You can do this on your alt characters but you risk infraction.
Allowing forum trolls and members of the (for a lack of a better term) âIâm offended by everythingâ crowd, many legit posters will find themselves banned.
As you, the OP said, I see a lot of posts being falsely flagged, which is a violation of the code of conduct as well.
On the flip side, what forums need are good moderators. Iâve not seen a forum moderated by good moderators in a long time. Iâve seen many forums where theyâll take anyone who is willing to do it. The other bad part about that is because forums know they have incompetent moderators, theyâll create a rule that includes the term ânonconstructiveâ which is a vague/generic term that you can lump nearly anything into. Itâs used to âcover upâ for a bad call on a moderatorâs part.
The community was fine with downvotes. It was blizzard that was concerned that trolls were unfairly getting downvoted by people who showed their dislike by hitting the âdislikeâ button.
The idea that posts that were hidden were entirely removed and could not be read at all was a bizarre lie. More people read those posts just to see what they were all about.
How many players are paying for multiple unconnected forum accounts that they can use to get other posters auto-banned?
Real multiboxers use connected accounts so they donât have to buy flying, earn mounts on each account. So these are accounts that are only being used by professional forum trolls.
Several people âmegaboxâ for farming things. Itâs not super uncommon but itâs not common. You can use those accounts to get someone you donât like banned.
No. Just no. The echo chamber is too real already. That, and give a peon power and it goes to their heads.
stretches feet in the air and wiggles toes
âSeveral peopleâ out of more than a million? Thatâs a huge problem? 3?
Multiboxers who megabox still max out their bnets. They arenât starting 40 unconnected accounts.
As someone who moderates one of the largest subreddits, forum votes are crap. Whether theyâre up or downvotes. People exploit the downvote systems (Ben Eisenkop is a great example). Upvotes suck because theyâre exploited in other clever ways. I see all these threads raving about streamers and when I do a few minutes of clicking, I find out that many of the streamer fanâs âheartsâ are from their own alts.
Downvotes were designed for âdoes not contribute to this discussionâ and instead are used for âI donât like youâ or âyou disagree with meâ or âI lost, so Iâm going to get evenâ.
If they just gave us the downvote button back,it wouldnât be like that. Some people seem to think flagging is the new downvoting.
It doesnât have to be 40. You can use as few as 8 to get someone banned.
Good God no. Under no circumstances would I ever want that.
Trolls will be trolls. Not much to be done about it. Just understand you need to take these forums with a grain of salt before you dive in.
Downvotes were made by clicking a âdislikeâ button. Later we were told we were abusing that dislike button by using it to express dislike, and it was actually intended to be for reporting violations of forum rules.
This was highly questionable. And anyway, not long afterwards they got a new forum software that was way easier to exploit. So maybe you should be complaining at Blizzard for choosing a software like that?
I have no idea who that Ben guy is. Is he some blizzard forum poster or do you just think heâs famous?
Downvotes in any forum are designed for âdoes not contribute to the discussionâ. People were abusing it for reasons beyond that and many frivolous. I can confirm this as actions from posters in games like this are the same from forum to forum.
And I have complained to Blizzard. They like the system because it does not require paying salaries to active forum moderators when the community can semi-police things. It saves the company a lot of money but can be exploited easier.
Ben Eisenkop, better known as Unidan. He was, for a long while âfamousâ on Reddit for discussing Ecology. He got notoriety because all his posts had a ton of upvotes and everyone who disagreed with him had a ton of downvotes. So people assumed âthis guy knows his stuff and must be rightâ. It turns out, he was using multibox accounts to upvote his own posts and downvote anyone who disagreed or took attention away from him. He got banned from reddit for it.
considering this post got flagged
no
no it shouldnât
people here are way to sensitive and let their emotions drive them, i donât want them policing forums.
I see. They deliberately mislabeled it âdislikeâ but reserved the right to trash us for not realizing they did it on purpose.
WRONG.
They chose this software intentionally because it had features they thought would be useful. You donât like those features. Well, I donât either, but if you think that maintaining 8 unconnected forum accounts to autoban posters is a big problem, youâre way out there.
