Should the Evoker Legendary been BiS in S3?

Considering the RNG involved, and the fact it’s a legendary, do you think there should have been a way to raise the item level of the evoker legendary to make it BiS in season 3?

Or would this just cause too much hate where players feel “forced” to keep grinding Aberrus which is an “old” raid?

It’d feel bad if it didn’t get scaled up like the Sylvanas now last xpac

It’s pretty much BIS until you luck into a 480+ weapon anyway.

RNG legendaries shouldn’t even be in the game

They’re not good for anything

No, it is only replaced by the Heroic and Mythic Fyrakk cantrip one-handed mace. Don’t worry though, I’m sure there will be an upgrade token so it’s best in slot again for Season 4.

Unironically correct, so you can remove those quotation marks.

This seems like it should have been a foreseeable problem.

RNG rare loot, including legendaries in many expansions, pretty much defines WoW gear. I’m surprised people expect it to change after 19 years.

Or the quest based Wrath-Cata style that were impossible to obtain from pugging, and required the guild to assign who the “winner” is of the legendary 2 months in advance and everyone else knows they have zero chance.

The legendary questlines were the way to go.

Nobody knows for sure, but my guess is if the legendary was the same collection style as say, Shadowmourne, WAY less people would have it.

I’d have it, and that’s all that matters to me

At least you’re honest lol.

You’d have it and every other plate wearer in your guild would not have it, with most knowing they will never get it.

The only people that need legendaries are people pushing high end content. The people pushing high end content deem these manditory. RNG and mandatory don’t work for obvious reasons.

RNG → game balance suffers → frustration occurs → everybody loses
Shadowmourne style → Hard for casuals to obtain it → most of the playerbase loses
Questline → Everybody has it - > everybody wins

Honestly we only have 2 plate users, we’d probably both have it by now lol

People rolling plate alts to get it though can deal with it

The raid is cleared with massively harder unnerfed bosses so clearly it isn’t “needed.”

Well, it normally took 2.5ish months to get one so the first would just be going out about now. The second would be coming in a few months.

I thought you didn’t but you actually meant the old cloak and ring questlines … to which the answer is a firm “no” because no one liked them. Folks did them because one had to. Every aspect of the game, from endgame to casual, was built with those things in mind.

There’s a way to doing “mandated gear for everyone” right, but most of WoW’s playerbase hated both artifact and azerite power so this is a moot point. Folks want their gear to drop from raids, dungeons, and the vault. With the one exception being PvP:ers whose high-end gear definitely should be deterministic. But by and large, folks want the randomness - including for the rarer and more powerful loot.

Oh yea, it did take longer than I remember

I only ever got shadows edge, which is pretty good considering I wasn’t in a raiding guild lol

Not season 3 but definitely season 4 since the boss that drops it will be back in the rotation.

Should it have been? Probably.

Speaking of shadows edge, I think a miss they had was not having a 2h str cantrip raid weapon except the legendary.

Could have easily had one off Smolderon or something (having both off Fryakk seems weird). Or maybe since the legendary is fire themed they could have had a nature one off council or Nymue.

Eh, I’d argue this is the worst of the 3 for overall game health. Let’s say you could complete a questline to get the legendary axe this season, how would Blizzard need to balance both the legendary and all specs around its existence? Would other top specs be able to compete with the 2H strength specs that have the axe? Or will the axe make them tower over everyone else because it’s “legendary?” How will those specs feel before they get the axe and are clearly underpowered compared to others? How will the players who lack the time/money to unlock the quest feel when they’re underpowered all season?

If a “legendary” weapon becomes just a flashier epic piece that is rivaled in power by other epic weapons, then these concerns mostly fall away. But if part of the appeal of being legendary is that it’s clearly the best option, unless you give all specs access to a similarly powered legendary, there will always be major balance issues. Realistically the only way to have an exclusive legendary is make it super powerful but so rare that anyone with it gets discarded as being a statistical outlier. As much as players might feel bad they will rarely (if ever) get a legendary, it’s genuinely impossible to balance around such a power effect if too many people have access to that item.
