For the talent investment required to make it realistically usable, it feels like it doesn’t hit that hard
Not to mention, it’s entirely rng based to use. Hard wasting it is most definitely a dps loss, so really you will only be using it with a proc
Soul Fire, as it stands right now, is only really useful when you have Decimation talented and a full Shadowburn build, along with at least 2-piece T2. Once an enemy hits 30% and you enter the burn phase, Decimation begins proccing significantly more as you weave Shadowburns and Conflagrates. Since Soul Fire also gets you a Soul Shard, it also enables more Shadowburns to get cast.
That being said, it isn’t particularly useful outside of that window, and it casts too slow and does too little damage relative to Chaos Bolt to be useful as a non-proc spell. Without Decimation, it serves almost no purpose.
I’d like it to hit harder, but knowing Blizz, they’d increase some trade-off in kind. Only trade-offs available are making the cast time longer, or no longer guaranteeing that you get a Soul Shard when it hits.
