Just like the title says, should someone that has never tanked in Classic wow try tanking? my only experience in any tanking was with Everquest and understood that you had to do your home work on the dungeons and raids before trying to tank and having a bunch of different gear for tanking as well, I know some tanking etiquette as in not pulling more than you can handle, keeping the mobs backs towards the group just the normal stuff someone should already know . Ive been in several groups where the tank is treated awful for just slips ups, does this happen a lot from your guys experience? have you seen this being a thing? only thing keeping me from rolling a tank, I dont want to have to deal with someone raging at me every dungeon or raid as this is a game and well I want to have fun playing it, I dont find being yelled at or being told im bad very fun XD
I mean tanks had to figure it out somehow.
Most important thing you can do is to just tell people “Hey I’ve never tanked here before”
They will help you.
Play what you want and enjoy the game. Its here for fun why not have fun with it :). Go for it I believe you can be great.
You must be willing to learn since there is a learning curve to tanking. It’s not hard at all once you’ve tabked several instances with groups that aren’t stupid with aggro. Two general tips I have are to mark a skull for dps to hit first and prioritize the elite melee mobs. It’s much harder to hold aggro when dps are attacking different targets and it’s not always possible to hold aggro on everything.
Tanking is really easy at lvl 60.
Before that its a nightmare fueled by how stupid your group is.
Do it if you want. But just realize tanks are overpopulated as heck.
Lol that don’t end at 60.
Sure it does, I have been in one pug since release.
Really? I guss I havent seen much of that on Grobb, im always seeing people looking for tanks and healers, im sure they are populated but no where near as DPS
Like others have said, everyone learns at some point.
Have a thick skin, take criticism well, and you will be a solid tank in no time.
There’s always going to be cases where dps and heals will complain. Learning to grow a thick skin early will go miles in your tolerance for tanking, once you’ve internalized the basics and become a readily available one.
In raids I absolutely agree with you. It’s the exact opposite in dungeons though.
Go for it! It isn’t like modern WoW, classic is far more friendlier for new tanks
I’m talking about for end game. Dungeons, you’ll be waiting for a tank. But, it isnt cause they dont exist, it’s because they are all fury/resto and dont wanna tank dungeons anymore. This is what a guild is for. You guilt trip your guild warriors to come tank for you. Don’t need to be prot to tank in classic. Fury and Arms work just fine.
On top of that, every raid team has more tanks than they need already, so who wants to roll another one and then not get a raid slot?
The ideal way to play a Warrior is to tank dungeons and dps in raids if you are after a spot in a group.
sure, start a druid.
tanking is stupid easy with a druid.
swipe. swipe swipe.
fairy fire pull.
swipe. swipe.
you will be fine for all 5 mans.
and off tank now and then in raids.
and can switch to kitty to do some DPS.
you’ll find that every leveling group will have an arms warrior in it that waited for a tank to join and then go aggro everything.
Sure.
Start with guild groups.
Yes, I have never healed before I am leveling a Shadow Priest and always am asked to be the healer. I am just honest, I tell them.
-
I am specced Shadow
-
Never healed before really.
-
They slow down and watch my mana its easy to be honest.
Tank away and on the bright side: You don’t have any retail tank bad habits!
