I don’t think I’ve ever seen this topic before so here goes… Since the Classic series covers ‘old’ content (very well), should Blizzard start thinking about removing the content of the corresponding levels from the retail codebase?
Retail devs wouldn’t have to spend their time and resources revamping the ‘old’ codebase for lower levels every time they make changes to talent trees, gear stats, etc.
Leave retail as is.
Leave classic as is.
Don’t give Blizzard stupid ideas. They tend to go with stupid ideas.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that was the plan. It’s clear devs find supporting a “world” to be inconvenient and more trouble than it’s worth to them and their lobby/esports glamourgame.
They’d just as soon remove old content, shut down the classic servers as they are no longer played, and then give us a “too bad you didn’t play/earn that stuff when it was available”.
Byebye world of warcraft. Hello brave new lobbies of chorecraft: shards of obligation.

Ask yourself this: do players really embrace the 1 to 60 and 60-70 Classic equivalent leveling experience in retail?
What really triggered this was remembering how deserted Outland was in retail.
Without the Classic series, Blizzard wouldn’t be able to mask or buffer the decline in monthly subscriptions due to retail content and/or content droughts.
Like…Molten Core? What? I don’t get it. Everything was revamped in Cata.
Why would they delete anything?

Classic is a separate entity from retail. Why would they delete retail content? Especially with time walking and Chromie time added.

With the Cataclysm they aren’t the same.
That said. No. This is a bad idea. They have boosts for people that can’t handle the few hours it takes to level through it.

Yup, I think this is a fantastic idea. Go to create a class and if their race/starting area corresponds with a Vanilla zone or anything of the sorts, the character floats off into the Void, never to be seen again.
So we get…pandas…and DH

No. Also, heck no. Older content is what I enjoy the most in Retail.

No. Destiny 2 started doing this and the response was ridiculously negative. Old content isn’t really wasted time on anyway, so this is a non-issue.

I think that they should develop old content, but instead of a cataclysm make it a restoration. Take some of the quests that are story-like and progress them, and the landscape should develop.

Some forum posters think old content in retail should be scaled to player level. Would you still feel the same way?
Okay OP, what about us people who like to collect TMOG from old content? How would that work out for us?
Also means they would have to gut the Timewalking stuff. Get rid of leveling altogether, delete a lot of older mounts and pets from said content.
Name one game that did this and it went by without a hitch.

Tmog is a big one. Get those who get paid $ to think about that.
I prefer to deliberately outlevel/outgear older content and then solo it all (including old dungeons and raids). That’s what I enjoy doing in WoW even if many people enjoy much more challenging gameplay.
So, I can handle some limited character scaling like EK/Kalimdor scaling up to Level 30, WoD scaling up to Level 40(?), and so forth. Totally optional Chromie Time is fine. But I would never want the entire game world to scale up to my current character level at all times.

I am still enjoying that content so NO.
I will picket. I will rant and rave. I will write a very angry letter!

Why would retail ever delete content ever again? There’s a mechanic to revisit old versions of zones, so even if they revamp the whole world it doesn’t have to be deleted.
