Thought I’d ask this instead of “should I play x, y, or z”. Should how many others are playing a given class be a determination in what I choose?
Yep. Follow the trends and skip what you want.
In general, no.
However, if your particular goals in playing are things like “get onto a raid team as soon as I hit 60” or “get into skilled PvP premades”, you’re already setting yourself up to have to care what other people want.
If the particular class and talent build are over-represented, are you willing to put in the extra work to both be competitive and a desirable team member? If the particular class and talent build are under-represented, but the reasons have to do with attitudes about meme specs, are you willing to accept that you’ll be rejected frequently?
Well I was thinking of going mage because I first mained one in Cata and leveled one as an alt back in TBC on a PvP server and always end up going back to it when I come back for a new expansion. I miss the things you used to could do when you had access to all your spell schools regardless of spec and downranking like r1 frostbolts for a super fast snare or r1 AE/Blizz to try and pop a rogue out of stealth.
I guess my concern comes from watching classic raid videos and seeing like 6-8+ of certain classes in the comp. Raiding always ends up being my focus, and I’m not super concerned with my ability to perform, but I’m definitely not as gung-ho as I used to be.
I also want to play a gnome just bc they’re probably my least played race and the only class they can be that I would say isn’t super populated is warlock, but I’m not a pet/dot kinda guy.
Thanks for the reply. You bring up some good points to consider as well.
play what you want. only the best guilds on the server actually care about raid comp.
That depends on if you play to have fun or if you play like it’s your life. So. It depends on you.
Do you make characters and check em out yourself or do you run to youtube and get the latest greatest meta hotness?
Play what you’ll have the most fun with, there will always be a group of people to play with no matter what you choose.
