Should Pets Still Be De-Leveled After Capture?

E.g. Level 25 pets get downgraded to Level 23 after capture.

This means you capture that level 25 pet, but have to level it back up those two levels for…reasons?

What’s the purpose of de-leveling captured pets? Should the de-level system just get scrapped?

Oh, I got an idea, let’s make wild pets’ level 27 so when we catch them, they are max player level 25.

Sounds like a great monkey paw x_x

Pets are the same level the hunter is, yes they should be the hunters level, as it is?

Just because you can tame pets above your level doesn’t mean they should be above your level. If you want pets not to ‘down level’ (which they only do if taming above your level, to your level), then they would prevent taming of beasts above your level in the first place, and you would have to wait to tame the beast until you it’s level or above it.

Edit: Leaving for posterity of my failure to read, but as OP pointed out below they were speaking of battle pets not the hunter pets I’d read it as in my head.

Wrong pets bud.

Oh boy, yeah that was a total misread, very sorry my bad

to be fair they could have said battle pets, but eh.

IIRC back in the days the ability to trade and sell battle pets were significantly more common than it is now’a’days. Now I think it is just limited to specific types of pets like raid drops and quests.

Regardless, back in the day I want to say you could trade and sell wild pets as well. So if you can capture a lvl 25, then that would mean them getting put up on the auction house immediately. Massively devaluing them and potentially even serving as a really effective and INCREDIBLY stealthy way for goldsellers to make gold that they could sell, which should’ve also been quite lucrative.

So… in all likelihood, an old anti-RMT system if I were to make a guess.

I think it would be so nice if every pet you captured turned into the blue version at the same level you saw it

Haha that’d be wonderful, but the rare upgrade stones are already dirt-cheap as it is so maybe we don’t need to go that far
