Should people be reported if they curse in chat?

Considering it’s against CoC… yeah.

No. There’s a language filter and the vast majority of people who play are adults. Not to mention the vast majority use cursing in everyday conversations all the time.
If you’re offended, turn on the filter.

there’s also a difference between cursing and being rude or vitriolic etc as well.

Curse words are very offensive to a lot of players, it’s best to report them. Any form of harassment, no matter how little is worth reporting. If a player talks down to another player at all they should be reported. Report them ALL and let Blizzard sort them out.

Proverbs 12:18 - The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

I’m kidding. Put the language filter on if those words offend you. I think people are entirely too report happy.

No, of course not, it is just a curse word. no big deal.

The language filter is not a free pass to break the rules. This has been explained for nearly two decades now.

For those that seem to think swearing is okay… it’s not. Right there in game’s CoC y’all agreed to:

as a Druid, just use remove corruption and move on. :dracthyr_a1:

but imo, dont flood them with trivial matters. if it actually offends you then sure, but if its just a random incident with no bite, then forget about it.

Flooding the reports with minor things will extend the time it takes to address “real” issues.

No it doesn’t hurt anyone. A Blizzard CS person received A LOT of Twitter flak for focusing a great deal on Swearing, while downplaying irl threats by saying "then report them, Joy. They deleted that post.

Oh I know what it says. I simply disagree with it.

I did agree to it, and therefore don’t do it. Doesn’t mean I agree with it.

If a player finds language used in any chat communication to be offensive, they have the right to report it. Tht’s…it…really. :sunglasses:

And I disagree with your views. This place nor the game need to be turned into a cesspool of language and toxicity.

I can think swearing is okay and often a harmless way to express a mood or make a point while agreeing not to do it in certain circumstances.

Why report, just take care of yourself and use the chat filter or put the person on ignore. It’s not up to the playerbase to enforce Blizzards code of conduct for them but some people will always want to be the hall monitor I guess and get some kind of satisfaction from reporting others.

That does not require swearing and has already happened.

As is your right.

I still think there’s a difference between cursing and toxicity, but again, to each their own.

It’s…a violation of the rules that they agreed to follow.

Like, I don’t care about language, but my opinion doesn’t matter. It’s just the rules. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

I enjoy the gnashing of teeth when I report someone for language. 9 times out of 10 they earn a break, then when it is up, they usually do it again.

i wont cause im not a narc but i cant fault anyone who would.

I am taking care of myself in game if needs be— by ignoring, reporting and moving forward.

But if someone is toxic or hostile towards me, they will get reported in game.

Now, I don’t run into such people in game, because I don’t have trade chat turned on and I don’t PvP.

The only way Blizz knows if someone is breaking the rules is if they’re reported by players. That’s why right click report exists.

What are you even on about? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

This just sounds like trying to belittle someone who is being harassed by someone else.

Depends on context.

If I say something to the effect of: “Oh flip me dude, that’s my fault.” With flip being an obvious substitute, probably not. It’s not directed at someone maliciously. It’s not being rude to someone. It’s just someone using dialect. I’m a New Yorker. Such dialect is common for me.

If someone goes on a spree though insulting someone and cursing them out, sure.

Keep in mind, I have never been reported for chat or otherwise. My usual rule of thumb is “know your audience”, so I only use dialect I am comfortable with when I am with people who I know also won’t be uncomfortable. If I’m in a random pug or a public chat channel, I do not speak that way.
